| 1179783 | 2011-02-19 14:55:00 | Are you sure the aviation industry ( dont know about NASA I am not a rocket scientist )in the usa has gone metric? only thing I have noticed is some engine temperature gauges are in Centigrade . Got some pretty new drawings (2007) here for a helicopter rebuild and they are all imperial as the queen . Many times there are dual standards, but yes - the real work is done in Metrics and I would offer that most all scientific endeavors are also . The US isn't really a sink of ignorance, and although the general populous isn't going to change from The King's Nose, Metrification is still ongoing in schools and universities at all levels - in an attempt to get the commoners into an obtuse and hard to perceive/conceive measurement standard . Our food packaging is dual-standards and the reason for both is that if only Metric values are on the label, it is suspect that the consumer is being ripped off with weights and volumes that aren't well understood and the product suffers from questionable marketing tactics . I have a tough time with Metrics, as it wasn't taught in my school daze, but it is ongoing - yet I don't ever see it totally taking over as generations are overlapped, fractured and generally with the onslaught of illegal uneducated persons from places Southern -- it won't change in the future that I can foresee . I think any attempts to ramrod Metrics into general use would be looks upon with suspicion a d everybody would want a peek at the man behind the curtains instead . Change won't come easy - but everybody fails to realize that they are living in a Martial Law state now, so who knows what's gonna happen . Viva La Revolución! |
