1180570 2011-02-23 22:26:00 Oh dear, I’ve upset some of the Hand-Wringers again.

Maybe they should have started the rescue mission with a Hui? :D

It looks, to me, once again, that you only want to snipe from the sidelines as you did during the Pike River tragedy.

If you know what needs doing then please go and do it instead of constant critisism which is not constructive as such!

1180571 2011-02-23 22:31:00 I just5 saw Barker on our TV - no political agenda is obvious - but youse guys know him better than I.

The scenes at your CTV building are devastating and those Japanese kids are really scared.

A couple of Canadians were interviewed and they were in the Cathedral when it cracked open.

We are starting to get a lot of videos now - about time after what - three days? Here I am complaining about the cold weather and snow and some of youse guys are worried about death and destruction - kinda skewed methinks.

Hopefully the water gets repaired soon - that's critical.

The children are 15 and 17 years of age, and their mother is their primary caregiver. They have been keeping vigil outside the CTV building, hoping she would be rescued, and as we have seen in painful detail on tv and stuff, they are rightly devastated. Now this. Words fail me.

Name and shame the fecking thieves. If the justice system does not take action, the residents of this country will.

1180573 2011-02-23 22:43:00 Parker's political agenda is observable elsewhere - you are right SJ; this crisis is different, and there aren't any politics other than those of search, rescue, and rebuilding. It will be later when the rebuilding begins that politics will determine priorities, methods, and who benefits (e.g. which property developers etc).

And it is not just the water supplies SJ - sewage is a major problem because of the fact that something like 80% of sewer lines have been damaged.

ChCh is built on a former swamp, so repairs will be difficult.

1180574 2011-02-23 22:58:00 I didn't mean to imply that Parker was being political about this if it came across that way, what I meant was that it doesn't matter whether I like him the rest of the time as he is handling this disaster exceptionally well as he did in September. Siobhan Keogh (16063)
1180575 2011-02-23 23:20:00 Siobhan, I didn't take your post that way. I should have indicated in my post that I was responding to surferjoe's earlier comment: "I just5 saw Barker on our TV - no political agenda is obvious - but youse guys know him better than I.". I think that was a response to what I had said about Parker's politics. John H (8)

Yeah, my thoughts too. In this situation people need a leader, a face on TV, someone physical they can relate to and trust. Mr Parker has been working extremely hard to provide that and I think he's doing very very well.

1180577 2011-02-23 23:35:00 The best pictures I have seen so far are here (www.theatlantic.com).

I can't believe the negative comments from some of the senior members on here who. They say with age come wisdom, I think they F^&^ked it up in some cases, with age comes pathetic posturing and extreme disrespect

1180579 2011-02-23 23:59:00 Those are amazing, good resolution too.

Has anyone come across CCTV footage of the cathedral spire collapsing? There must be some around somewhere, guess we might have to wait until the central city is opened up again before seeing it.
