1180490 2011-02-22 09:41:00 Everyone I know down in Christchurch (a total of four people :p) are safe and well, even if they are camping out on their lawn. My friend's family is all okay as well, although she was worried about her uncle as it took a while for him to get in touch. pcuser42 (130)

1180493 2011-02-22 10:19:00 Right just read through thread. And wow.

First, the media is not blowing it out of proportion. It is worse than any of you could imagine, it's actually worse than what's being shown on TV.

2ndly, if you don't want to see injured people on the TV then turn it off. We were seeing dead bodies on the side of the ****ing road so grow up.

Stu, thanks for the concern. House is okay considering. Street is quite flooded, am in the St Albans area (not far from the central city)

Aftershakes are still hitting constantly, the rain isn't helping but I am thankful the power has gone back on for the night. The entire city is blocked off, streets are flooded, buildings are collapsed everywhere, I think only 2 petrol stations are open and there are fatalities. Like I said I am lucky to be alive, it really is that bad.

**** me its not often I agree with what Wolf says but this time hes spot on.
Its a ****ing war zone here.

1180494 2011-02-22 12:00:00 Yep, our house is far more trashed than the previous two main shakes, we have two holes in the roof where the struts have poked through the roof and pushed the tiles out.

Insurance team came today to evaluate the house for repairs, two hours after they left whammo and the house is really trashed now, windows broken, bricks pushed out, concrete cracked and broken round footings, firewall adrift moving the roof, think house will have to be demolished, hot water tank leaking from multiple places, electrical faults making smells and burning, doors and windows jammed and won't close anymore.

I drove down to New World St Martins to get provisions and the places on the way look like there has been a war, liquefaction everywhere, roads cracked, river overflowing and grey silver colour.

I am using my 3G Vodafone from Pentium 3 laptop, my main computer is trashed on the kitchen floor, my flat a huge mess, I can't walk anywhere broken glass and electronic bits everywhere.

All members of family and close friends all ok though so that's what matters.

1180497 2011-02-22 17:38:00 Bloody stupid Police proceedure - Police are reporting 32 dead, meanwhile for more than 8 hours we've known there are 65 dead.
It seems if the cops haven't formally identified your corpse you in fact are not counted among the dead... just a pity you can't be counted among the alive either.

1180498 2011-02-22 18:24:00 Well said Paul.

Why don't the police just say we have found 65 bodies and have formally identified 32.

I feel really sorry for the people of Christchurch, they had had to put up with so much over the last 5 month and now this.

1180499 2011-02-22 18:28:00 I'm a bit surprised that two relatively modern building the CTV and the Pine Gould ones collapsed.

I thought that NZ had some of the highest earthquake building standards.

(remind me never to go up that Burjh building in Dubai)
