| 1210947 | 2011-06-21 07:06:00 | Hi Guys I have one of these printers and am very pleased with it. It says I need a new drum, this is about $140 for a genuine Brother one or $80 for a compatable one. Should I buy one of these or may be just buy a new printer. My point is that all the rollers and belts etc are wearing out and I may get more paper jams with my current printer, versus the plain sailing that I should get with a new one ! ? (This is my second Brother pinter of the same design) |

| 1210953 | 2011-07-01 03:38:00 | Instead of replacing the printer, go on ebay and look for a Brother HL 2140 drum - NOT the drum cartridge - just the drum. This is about $15 USD. I'm not sure what that translates to in your currency. The drum is a circular tube and fits inside of the drum cartridge. It is very simple to replace and the ones on ebay come with instructions. That is it. It is FAR cheaper to replace the parts with items off of eBay than it is to get genuine Brother parts. One brother toner cartridge was more than I paid for my printer! | hatetoregister (16436) | ||

Then you have a choice of spending over $250 for a new drum and toner or buying the latest version Brother HL-2130 at $90 and throwing the old printer down the bank on a lonely country road. |

| 1210956 | 2011-07-02 01:27:00 | Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I am going to phone my local Cartridge World for their prices for a new drum cartridge. But my main question is that if you replace the drum cartridge, then other parts of the printer may start playing up, eg the rollers will be getting worn and dry and I may get more paper jams etc. This happened to me on my first Brother. Whereas with a new printer its all new again. It does seem crazy how the pricing structure works. |
