1210446 2011-06-18 22:15:00 Hi there,
Since i am getting faster internet I am in need of a new wireless router.
I need something that is fast and good for gaming, one that has at least one USB port, and something that wont break the bank. My max to spend is about $260. At the moment I am thinking of going with a Cisco dual band one.
Is dual band worth it and what are the benefits with it?

1210447 2011-06-19 03:54:00 I have a linksys WAG320N. Dual band. Not much benefit to be honest. The biggest problem I've found with them is their software can screw with your computers. Depends what OS you are running. What kind of specs are you looking for for speed and distance etc? dpDesignz (15919)
1210448 2011-06-19 04:04:00 I got one of the Vodafone Echolife routers off trademe for like $40 brand new, 802.11n, usb print sharing/hard drive sharing and so far its been really reliable. TBH i have not tested it but can't see why it wouldn't work with another ISP. Alex B (15479)

Don't know why you want USB when you state you want something fast. You are better off getting a network card if your PC hasn't got Ethernet.

1210450 2011-06-19 04:28:00 I am running windows 7 32bit or 64bit on all my computers. I have been looking at routers that are 300mbs, it doesn't have to have a huge rang as it is only for household use. I will be gaming online with my ps3.

I know that computers have Ethernet ports and why would i need a network card if I am looking at routers??????

I want at least one USB port so i can plug my printer in or even plug in a hard drive.

I mentioned the network card because some older PC's don't have an ethernet port.
A USB printer won't work. You would have to use a proper network printer with ethernet and unless your hard drive is attached to a NAS that won't work either and that again will use ethernet.
That router I mentioned has 4 ports.
You can use your USB printer by networking the PC it is attached to and everyone prints via that PC.

1210452 2011-06-19 05:40:00 Some routers have a usb port that can be used for nas/printer use. Alex B (15479)
1210453 2011-06-19 05:41:00 Hey thanks for the clarification. Ok, so then why do they put USB ports on them? Jellymeat (16420)
1210454 2011-06-19 05:47:00 With linksys by cisco routers you are actually able to plug a external hard drive or flash drive. They just have to be NTFS file system. My printer is network able through Ethernet and I have set it up on my current router. Jellymeat (16420)
1210455 2011-06-19 05:58:00 You mean they have to be FAT32 Alex B (15479)
