1180247	2011-02-21 19:30:00	I saw a topic about Borders and Whitcoulls closing down, but this thread is different it is about their vouchers. I have a 100 dollar Borders and Whitcoulls voucher. I heard that you have to spend twice as what the voucher is worth to use it? Is this true? So do I have to spend 200 dollars to use that 100 dollar voucher? Or has that rule not come into play yet? If it has, what a rip off from Borders and Whitcoulls, and what a shame to scam money off people!!!	forums12345 (15197)

Now that they are in voluntary administration, they're not legally obligated to accept the vouchers at all - you are an unsecured creditor, and they would be well within their legal rights to say "nope, not accepting vouchers at all", and you would have to contact the Administrators and lodge a claim and hope there's money left over to refund voucher holders after the secured creditors are repaid - but let's face it, that isn't often the case. So be happy you can still use your voucher, and redeem it for IT'S FULL VALUE. You are NOT getting ripped off in any way, you have a $100 voucher, and you can use it to receive $100 off the price of a purchase - there is just now the clause that the redeemed amount cannot exceed 50% of the total price.	inphinity (7274)

You are not getting $100 off the price of your purchase. You are simply collecting the goods that you have already paid for. 2. You ARE getting ripped off. You have already paid $100 to Whitcoulls that you can then use to pick up around $35-$40 worth of books (using www.bookdepository.co.uk as a comparison), but only on the condition that you take another $35-$40 worth of product and hand over another $100 for the privilege. 3. The redeemed amount is already less than 50% of the total value of the purchase. See point 2. I have bought books from Whitcoulls for years - use Mighty Ape for software and the occasional book, but still always preferred to browse and buy in store. I think those days are gone now. Whitcoulls have really shot themselves in the foot with their attitude to customers. I don't see a way back for them now. :2cents:	Miami Steve (2128)
1180253	2011-02-21 22:26:00	There have been alot of retailers go bust over the last 10-20 years, leaving vouchers & store credits worthless. Plenty of media coverage on these in the previous years. Buy a voucher, you take the risk. Perhaps its time to ban retail vouchers or put the funds into some sort of trust. Surely prepaid debit Visa cards are the way to go now ?? But it was stupid on their part. All these angry voucher holders may never buy from these stores ever again. Why not just honor the vouchers. It wont have an immediate effect on cashflow & chances are voucher holders may have made another purchase while in the store.	1101 (13337)

1180256	2011-03-09 05:14:00	i tried to redeem my vouchers by just walking out with my books after letting them scan them,and leaving the $80 voucher. The little old ladies chased me! i walked calmly away saying i am not stealing, unfortunately for me an off duty police man across the road heard the commotion and bailed me up! walked me back to the shop where i did my spiel on how immoral it all is and how people just accept whatever the big wigs dish out...they still get their millions! the police man said"that's what you call corporate theft' i had to leave the books and take my voucher. i would like to see a lot of us get together and get our books. they have been paid for.	viva (16245)
