1179881 2011-02-20 02:19:00 Hey ya all

Was just wondering if any other ISPs out there is suffering DSL outages? Im with NZNet's naked dsl, have my net down since Wednesday. Using my 3g net at the moment, so was wondering if any other ISPs out there is having issues?

Or does any one know whats up with NZNet's long outage? They stopped picking up their phones, for obvious reasons, so was wondering if any one have heard anything about whats going on with their long outage. In the past its very rare to have outage, while when it does happens, it only goes for an hour or so, never for several days ><.

Was thinking of switching ISP if this doesnt get resolved within the next couple of days... .

DSL Internet Outage Wednesday 16th Feb

We currently have an outage affecting all ADSL connections.
Engineers are working on this urgently and we hope to have this issue corrected as soon as possible.
We apologize to affected clients for the inconvenience caused.

If it takes them 4 days to fix an outage, I'd switch.

1179883 2011-02-20 06:05:00 I'm with Cato, that's a pretty major outage. I'd be looking at switching pretty damn soon personally. Have jumped ship to HD (Hosting Direct) (my.hd.net.nz) and couldn't be happier! Chilling_Silence (9)

Are you on the unmetered plan??
What kind of performance are you getting? How do they shape the traffic and how does it work out for you?

1179885 2011-02-20 07:04:00 I saw that they did ADSL, but im staying with xnet. nedkelly (9059)
1179886 2011-02-20 08:08:00 Yeah I'm on their unmetered. I find it great! I only sync at 4M/bit though, but I can max it out happily.

I had a bit of a chat with their CEO Ben prior to joining them, basically whenever they get *near* their limit, he orders more bandwidth, unlike other ISPs who will happily sit maxed out for months on end before doing anything about it. One thing that he takes very seriously is their connectivity, I was highly impressed by it all. The last thing that they want to do is become the next Slingshot or Xnet.

I *think* that the Unlimited plan may end up going to a capped plan, or enforcing some sort of a "fair use" policy, just so that people don't abuse it. I get the feeling it'll be a few hundred gigs though, something that all but the most aggressive pirates won't have to worry about :) There was some chatter on a GPForums thread, the community were giving their feedback, seemed to be quite well received by HD!

But yeah anyways, I get great throughput, no issues with rapidshare being throttled (I grabbed a random file to test, and others have confirmed that too), no issues with YouTube throughput (My line can only handle 720p bitrates, not 1080p, coz I'm about 1.8KM from the Exchange). VoIP is QoS'd at the ISP-side as a higher priority which is always nice. Browsing speeds are top-notch as you'd expect them to be. Gaming is what matters the most to me, and I'm getting great pings to both NZ, Aus (I host DotA on a VPS) and to the US (I play LOTRO). National pings are about 5ms lower than they were with Orcon / Telecom which I thought was interesting. Internationally they're about 10ms lower. At first I had interleaving on which naturally meant things were a bit higher, but now with it off, comparing apples with apples, it's even better!!

Somebody PM'd me about that referral code in my link. I don't get anything from it (They don't do referrals on ADSL) but I thought it'd be interesting to see how many people are interested by what I say ;)
