1179559	2011-02-18 09:07:00	Depends which variety you mean, but most forms of A-GPS (including every GPS you're likely to find in a smartphone) mean a normal, bog-standard, does-not-require-assistance GPS, with optional assistance, which can improve time to first fix, local accuracy etc.	Erayd (23)

1179561	2011-02-18 09:16:00	does this use data off the phone or is it just like a normal car gps using the satellites? a lot of phones now have this feature On my phone, GPS works by itself but A-GPS might work a bit faster, maybe more noticeable at startup (to locate your initial location). Without A-GPS on mine it takes longer but after that, more/less it's ok. On my phone, if I go into the settings and tick - to use A-GPS it will at its own discretion access mobile data and I pay. Depends on my phone, I guess thou afaik A-GPS might be required for many routing - ie., to select "goto" and for it to tell you exactly how to get there - turn by turn navigation. But on some phones navigation is free or its via the phone's map subscription. Also on my phone I have "network GPS" - I am not sure if the cell providers in NZ support that feature but it is a service and in some countries should it use it, you pay ... So on my phone I have only ticked "integrated GPS".	Nomad (952)

On my phone if I don't have the downloaded map, it won't access the application via mobile data until I enable A-GPS in the menu. For sure, A-GPS is aids reception by definition.	Nomad (952)
