Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer v8 Windows XP KB2530548 fails to install

then when I close down it tries to install again - and fails

I uninstalled IEv8 & reinstalled it but with no success - KB2530548 still fails to install.

any suggestions of how to get past this?

Thank you

1211418 2011-06-23 07:21:00 true - we'll see.
either way I still need to stop KB2530548 from trying to install or install it.

1211419 2011-06-23 07:23:00 try booting in to safe mode (to install the update), if i remember that would sometimes help Boyd (14246)

1211421 2011-06-23 07:24:00 IE9 wont work in XP

One thing you can try -- open a command prompt, type in

net stop wuauserv (press enter)

You should get a message saying update stopped

navigate to C:\windows\SoftwareDisribution folder and delete it.

Close all windows, open a command prompt, type in

net start wuauserv

I normally reboot just for the hell of it - Windows will create the folder again.

Now manually run Windows updates, or manually download the KB and install it.

Only down side is if you delete the SoftwareDisribution folder you wont be able to remove any previous updates.

Would that be of a concern?

1211423 2011-06-23 07:48:00 Not generally a problem.

What happens sometimes is when windows updates download they "unpack" in the folder before installing, they also have the uninstall portion there. Sometimes they get "stuck" or damaged and no matter what you do they wont install.

By removing the folder it gives a clean slate to work with as windows re creates the folder again.
