1180891 2011-02-22 22:04:00 I am buying some hard drives off someone in Christchurch, will they be worth it after the earthquake? nedkelly (9059)
1180892 2011-02-22 22:11:00 Personally i wouldn't buy them, as they are more likely to fail, due to the Earthquake. goodiesguy (15316)
1180893 2011-02-22 22:34:00 Bullcrap! If they were not installed and/or running at the time of the quake, they will have no more chance of failing than any other HDD in the country.

EDIT: I would also add that you might need to request proof that nothing fell on them...

1180894 2011-02-22 22:50:00 They are not installed, two of them are still in the sealed anti static bags. nedkelly (9059)
1180895 2011-02-22 22:57:00 As long as they were not running at the time of the quake they should be fine....though there are chances of some fragile internal components being knocked about even when stationary. qazwsxokmijn (102)
1180896 2011-02-22 23:21:00 Oh now I am confused nedkelly (9059)
1180897 2011-02-22 23:24:00 Shouldn't be worst than the way courier agencies handle them - if you ever worked in their operation centres, you'll know what I meant. bk T (215)

1180899 2011-02-23 00:17:00 haha you are not the only one who thinks that nedkelly (9059)
1180900 2011-02-23 01:37:00 Yeah I doubt they would have had any treatment worse than what the courier would do to them.

That is why I prefer to pick hard drives up when I buy them...
