1212486 2011-06-28 03:52:00 I wouldn't necessarily blame the router, I also have a DSL-502T Gen 2 (among others!) and apart from the lame firmware it gets around the same rate as my other routers (just tested right now):

Down 16487kbps
Up 932kbps

Speedtest reports 15.21Mbps which is actually faster than my Thomson

1212487 2011-06-28 08:37:00 Gamejunkie - 7547 is the tell-all number.
When the first D-Link ADSL2+ modems came out there was something wrong with their interpretation of the 2+ standard and all the modems stuck on a maximum of 7547 IF the interleaving was turned ON.

You need to ring your ISP and ask for it to be turned OFF. (insist if necessary)

Your line rate could well double afterwards. (Mine went from 7547 to 12+)

1212488 2011-06-28 12:06:00 Perhaps you could check for a firmware update also? There might be some improvement there too. Agent_24 (57)
1212489 2011-06-28 12:18:00 im sure i've tried(updating the modem, supplied by telecom) in the past but using vista/7 it wont let me upload the file.
dont have an xp comp to try and update it.

the router hasnt had any new firmware for quite a while, always reinstalled the latest but no apparent change

according to this ftp://files.dlink.com.au/products/DSL-502T-GenII_NZ/REV_C/Firmware/

the latest firmware for the telecom modem is 2-3 years old

1212490 2011-06-28 12:28:00 Yeah the firmware is old but mine is latest and has no problems - although I do have interleaving off - but I also don't recall noticing any speed problems like yours before it was turned off either.

How are you trying to update the firmware? Through web interface or with the D-Link tool?

Which firmware do you have running currently?

1212491 2011-06-28 12:39:00 the modem is running V3.00B01T01.TX.20070314

im gonna run the exe update V3.02 tomorrow , from here ftp://files.dlink.com.au/products/DSL-502T-GenII_NZ/REV_C/Firmware/

but apparently, all v3.02 fixes is: 1. Fix Failed Remote web management and remote telnet for PPPoA

worth the trouble??

1212492 2011-06-28 12:48:00 Have a read of this ( . dlink . com . au/Default . asp" target="_blank">support . dlink . com . au)

Select DSL on the left / your modem on the right, then upgrade firmware

- You may have two options with the new firmware:

(A) *RECOMMENDED OPTION* WEB Interface binary (WEB) file .

(B) Firmware upgrade utility (EXE) file . Note: this option is not suitable for Windows Vista .

And

Step 1 . Download the . BIN (WEB) firmware file from the DOWNLOADS folder of the product tree . Please ensure to check the Revision of your router via the silver sticker on the bottom of the device . Ensure to download the appropriate firmware (WEB) for your Revision . NOTE: Ensure to download the . BIN (WEB) Firmware file and not the EXE .

So it may pay too get the web file not the exe file

I think you're reading the update notes wrong, the release notes are here: ftp://files.dlink.com.au/products/DSL-502T-GenII_NZ/REV_C/Firmware/Release_Notes.txt (note that the versions are cumulative, any fix published for one version update is included in future updates PLUS whatever update was included in that newer version)

Basically, downloading the latest firmware for an item will (unless otherwise stated) contain not only the fixed described for that version but all the fixes that were released in prior versions as well.

Now if you are using firmware dated "20070314" it's very out of date, since that date seems even older than the initial release firmware which is "20070330"

In either case, you don't appear to have anything newer than the version in which they "Updated DSL Layer Code for Improved DSLAM Compatibility and ADSL2/2+ Performance" which is what I'd be looking at because it sounds like it's designed to fix what might be your problem.

1212494 2011-06-28 22:25:00 it reccomends to do a factory reset, this will clear all settings??

when ive tried to update it in the past, i havent done the factory reset, it says the update file is inccorrect.

i've chosen the update for the dlink 502t revision c but it says its incorrect

found this www.gpforums.co.nz

1212495 2011-06-28 23:05:00 Yeah I think it's refusing the firmware as yours is '20070314' which isn't on D-Link's release notes... so it thinks it's the wrong series or something.

Probably a custom or pre-release version that Xtra got hold of and started shipping routers with before the device and firmware went retail.

Did the executable file work? Or do you have to use XP for that?

If you've got no XP you could find someone who does or you might be able to do it with a bootable XP PE CD, like UBCD4Win.
