| 1181896 | 2011-02-27 21:34:00 | We have had quite a few payments from TradeMe auctions and have found that it is usually 2 to 3 days, but if cash is deposited into your account it shows almost immediately. When banking cheques it needs to physically go to the bank that issued the cheque so that they can check the signature, hence the delay. Having said that about cheques, I understand that they don't look very carefully at signatures and some people have had cheques honoured with a Donald Duck signature. Seems as though online banking is more secure. When I worked in frontline banking in the early eighties (1980's that is! :)), tellers had to check all cheques for: 1. Post-dated dates 2. Signature presence 3. Words and figures agree Anything over $1000.00 was out-sorted given an extra thorough going over. By the time I left three years later, the "over $1000", was "over $10,000". I imagine now that tellers are so focused on cross-selling additional banking services, any cheques that arrive in the branch (I suspect they don't go to individual branches any more, but to a central point) are only looked at if the customer has exceeded their overdraft limit - the banks always used to prefer dishonouring a cheque for a technical reason rather than a "lack of funds" reason. In those days the customer relationship was valued.... I don't remember the last time I wrote a cheque... |

Because EDS process them and don't straight away . Same with some ATMs, husband uses certain ones and deposit shows straight away - others next morning . Really slack ATms, next afternoon!! |

| 1181901 | 2011-02-28 01:05:00 | The PSIS is really bad, even over night doesn't happen. I have had People pay me on line who are with PSIS on a Tuesday, send through a screen shot of the transaction with date and time, and it takes 2-3 days to come through. I bank with Westpac, and its over night to any other bank as been previously mentioned as long as its done before 10.00pm at 10.01pm, then it takes a day longer. Any transactions on a weekend, will not show in the persons account till Tuesday. |

That's because the PSIS aren't a real bank - they will have an account at a trading bank, which adds an extra layer of complexity to the whole system. Much like the ASB used to with the BNZ when the ASB were still Auckland Savings Bank... |

| 1181903 | 2011-02-28 02:27:00 | Over the weekend it can take 2-3 days but should be overnight for weekdays. It annoys me that nothing goes through on weekends. Even worse with banking cheques - three days? Do they have people hired who manually check every transaction or is their system just ridiculously slow? I would suggest that they lend the money on a short term basis, and make a nice little sum on the side. |

You can now with CC as I have done it numerous times and you have been able to do it with savings and cheque for years so I don't really know what you are talking about. |
