2011-02-28 03:15:00 | can someone quickly compare (performance) Intel Core i7 2620M (laptop) Against the i7 920 (desktop). Doesn't matter what pc they're in just as long as you put them into a laptop and a desktop as equal spec as possible which would be faster and by how much? (% please).

2011-02-28 03:19:00 | You have them around the wrong way. The 2620M is the laptop CPU ;) | Chilling_Silence (9) | |

2011-02-28 04:58:00 | My impression is that the i7 920 is faster, because it is a desktop CPU, which has a higher tolerance of heat than a mobile CPU would. Usually a desktop CPU would be faster than a mobile CPU anyway. Also, despite an improvement in manufacturing process, the new Sandy Bridge chips are only about 10% faster than their predecessors. So there is not that much advantage to the i7 2620QM. And according to Passmark, i7 920 owns 2620QM bad... www.cpubenchmark.net Which would be worse if you include the factor of Over clocking...

Mobile CPUs tend to tolerate heat better than desktop CPUs because with a laptop it's extremely hard to implement a streamline but effective cooling system. |

2011-02-28 07:55:00 | Mobile processors tend to perform lower per clockcycle than desktop processors clock for clock. The 920 will be faster even with the 2620M in turbo, add to this the 2620M is of course only a dual core where the 920 is a quad. Apples and oranges really.
