1463827 2019-09-18 18:39:00 Hello
I have got a couple of old motherboards, with CPU and RAM.
They are about 5 years old.
I upgraded to newer ones, they were still going OK.

Is there a market for these so I can raise a bit of cash
Or perhaps helps someone that want an old mbo
Or is there a place that sends them to Africa
They are also taking up space in my garage
Any suggestions

1463828 2019-09-18 19:27:00 What combos are they, might help someone if they know what they are. I often resurrect them from my systems as servers or media players. My last server replaced at the beginning of this year was an old P4 gary67 (56)

Not everyone can afford the latest cutting edge gear or need it's performance

Africa?! Not everyone in NZ is rich you know.

My own motherboard and CPU is now 9 years old.
No reason to upgrade yet...........

Specify what it is, Trademe, Geekzone sale forum, or GPForums sale forum.

I once did some work for a girl, her and mum were refugees, not a stick of furniture in the place, except a desk and pride of place, the computer.
With a little lace cloth on it, it was like a shrine.

Sadly it was beyond help, had been donated by a teacher. Running win98, this in 2005.
So old it wasn't funny.....pitiful.

I managed to scrounge some assorted old bits and made her another, free, she really did only do homework on it.

1463833 2019-09-18 23:43:00 I usually sell mine on trademe. If you search on the CPU model in trademe you should get a good Idea what other people think they are worth. Look for prices of MB/CPU/RAM combos similar to what you are selling if you want to sell all 3 because a working combo is easier to sell than individual components a lot of the time, and it gets rid of it all at once.

I've stopped worrying about anything too old though, I've given away quite a few core 2 duo/quad era components. Anything Newer still has some value though, until recently the speed improvements each generation were fairly minor.

Personally I sell my old stuff off cheaper than a lot of people, I think there's some ridiculous prices around for 2nd hnad gear. For example 2nd hand i7 6xxx and 7xxx CPUs are still listed second hand for prices that would get you a brand new 6 core Ryzen and motherboard. I know that specific example because I have an i5 7400 I would like to upgrade but prices mean I'll be replacing instead.

1463834 2019-09-18 23:57:00 Second Hand Computers /Parts aren't worth much at all these days. Personally I wouldn't by anything like that from Trademe, you never know what condition the parts are in, usually no warranty of any sort.

You can pick up complete ex-Lease computers dirt cheap, come with warranties and at least you know they have been tested before hand. 90 Day warranty
Example: (cant be bothered writing all the Specs so) :

10007

$109.25 + freight (approx $12)

Bit more upmarket :

10008

$297.85 + freight

1463835 2019-09-19 00:44:00 @Wainuitech yes but we are talking about selling not buying.

I think trademe take way too much from each sale, but it's the only online market large enough in NZ to reliably buy and sell pc stuff (Except possibly facebook but I like that even less).
Anyone buying second hand should be aware of the risks.

And sometimes you just want parts. Ex-Lease is great for some things, not a solution for every situation.
I've got some good deals from trademe, but I will not pay more than 50% of new price for anything unless it's near new and there's some kind of warranty (or it's just too good a deal to pass up and not too expensive).

1463836 2019-09-19 03:59:00 @Wainuitech yes but we are talking about selling not buying .

. I know that, but what I was trying to point out is if you are selling something then what someone is willing to pay may be well below expectations . You could buy a whole PC for what you may be thinking you can get from old parts .

A good example was a few months back one of my customers wanted to sell his four year old computer asked what he could get for it, wasn't happy about the response esp when I showed him higher specs these days brand new would be less than what he wanted .

As its been mentioned, selling a working MB/ CPU & Memory would work out better, but dont expect to much for them . Just looked on Trademe, theres a Basic MB/CPU Intel board with i3-550 @ 3 . 20Ghz $35

Many people seem to think if they paid ( lets say) $100 for a motherboard 3 years ago they will get a similar return, in reality if you got $30 you may be doing well .
