What is the EXACT make and Model of the printer . ???

My advice. Go & buy a 2nd cheap $40 printer.

These cheap USB printers wont be an easy share . Its doable though . Easy if youve done it a few times .
Go into Control Panel (yes) , printers & share from there .
You'll might need to install the driver on the other Win10 PC , hopefully not . Canon dont seem to give just the basic driver for this. So could be an install which may fail when it doesnt see it via USB

Forget about sharing the scan function .

You'll then need to add the printer on 10, if you're lucky the auto search for printers will find it. If not you'll need to browse for it....
I allways use the old school Control Panel for this sort of thing.
Honestly, if you dont want the stress, either buy another or just get a long USB cable & plug into what ever PC you want to print from (if possible)

another way , with pictures .

1460556 2019-05-08 06:27:00 We both have W10 here.

Her's a Canon 6100 mine Canon 6250 with wifi embedded.

This laptop is in another room 12 feet and two walls away, will print off the 6100, but mine 3 feet away does not.

My 6250 printer connected to XP desktop only 3 feet away from lappy sits there looking stupid, probably needs a "dongle".

6250 has 3 card slots as well as the usb port. For photo input.

1460557 2019-05-08 06:43:00 The reason I asked earlier what model was if it had a Ethernet port its simple as falling off a log :p But since it doesn't have to do it the long way.

NOW a bit of pre-planning before hand can save a mountain of problems.

Assuming they are both W10 that's a good start.

pre-checks. Do 1 & 2 on BOTH computers.

1.Go to This PC (on desktop) if not showing go into the Control Panel ( as 1101 Mentioned) click on system - make sure both Computers are on the same workgroup. If they are different, on the right hand side of that window click on "Change Settings" in the window that opens clcik on Change you'll see where to change. The default is Name is Workgroup.

Take a Note (name & IP address - #3 Below) of the Computer (make sure you get it right (you'll see why shortly)

2. Make sure file / Printer sharing and network Discovery are ON -- Open Control Panel - Network and sharing - top Left - Change Advanced Sharing - From Private - they should look like this:

9598

Scroll down to Password protected Sharing, make sure Password Protected sharing is OFF:

9599

3. This step isn't really needed but I do it anyway, save a a headache :) From the PC with the Printer attached - Open a CMD from search - type in ipconfig - Look for the IP address;
Example: Mine on this PC is 192.168.1.11 ( yours will be different)

9600
Now go to the other PC, open a CMD, type in ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ( X being the IP address of the original PC) "IF" the two are talking you'll get a reply, if they are not then it will time out, and you wont have a sh1t show of sharing so that would need sorting first

Example: just pinged one of my servers with a IP of 60

9601.

This is ALL the pre work, doing it as 1101 posted takes a few seconds, sure a LOT quicker than writing it out. :D

Now assuming they are talking to one another --- lets share-- from the Computer with the printer -- Control Panel - Devices and printers - Right click the printer - Properties - Sharing tab, Tick Share This printer

9602

Mines not ticked because all the printers here are LAN/Ethernet connected.

Now a trade trick ( not really) :)

(bugger have to make another post to many pics.

1460558 2019-05-08 06:47:00 PART 2

I find this quicker --On the Computer you want to connect the printer to ( not your wifes) press windows key + R

In the box that opens, type in the network IP address or computer name of your wifes , make sure you add in the \\ EXAMPLE:

9603

Press Enter -- If you get a password box, type in your wife's user name and her password.

All going well you'll see the printer - Right click it - Install, it will drag across the correct drivers and install.

The downside to sharing like this is her computer has to be turned on if you want to print.

Sometimes windows 10 will automatically detect and install a shared printer, to look on YOUR PC go to Devices and Printers, have a look to see if its there, if not you can also click on Install Printer, point it at the network, may or may not pick up. If it doesn't work from above methods then it may need to be put in from the software.

Note:The above windows Key + R opening the other computer should show the shared printer, if its not then theres something else not quite right.

Puff puf puff --LOL This took a long time to right out including pictures, doing it would take approx 5 minutes (all going well).
