1460048 2019-04-19 21:40:00 Good morning.
I would like to try this to read aloud to me from whatever I have on screen. Books, news, articles etc. Email can do this but with an American accent. This does not go well with my hearing aids.Do you know of an app that uses proper english. Thanks. PJ

1460049 2019-04-19 22:33:00 If you open the Read aloud Setting ( type read aloud in search - turn on / Off narrator ) then click on Add Voices, then Manage Voices - theres a whole list from different countries.

9559

9560

restart the settings ( as its instructed) then you can select any of the newer ones you want.

Just installed The UK and Aussie.

1460050 2019-04-20 21:11:00 W. Thanks. It reads mostly, but only the instuction boxes. It wont read the text of a book. Is there a tick box I have missed? PJ Poppa John (284)
1460051 2019-04-20 23:43:00 W. Thanks. It reads mostly, but only the instuction boxes. It wont read the text of a book. Is there a tick box I have missed? PJ Dont think theres any tick missed.

What format are you trying to have it read ? It may not be compatible.

Are you able to post a link to something you are having problems with.

OFTEN its a LOT easier if someone helping can actually either see the problem and can replicate it ( or not)

With W10 theres a couple of ways to use read aloud.
1. In Search type Read Aloud, select it - Open - Then from file open the file you want to have read.
2. Open in EDGE - top right from the 3 dots - Read aloud.

From Read Aloud:
9564

From Edge:
9565

Try this, Using this thread I did a test, open read aloud, From Web copy/paste in this pages URL it should read.

Example of this page: (Right Click the Link / Copy url)The URL to use: pressf1.pcworld.co.nz

Example of it working (video) wont have sound, no Mic on this PC. streamable.com

1460054 2019-04-23 04:56:00 Thanks People but once again I have to throw in the towel. My Old brain is unable to follow, understand, instructions. I will just carry on reading. Thankyou for the advice & help. PJ Poppa John (284)

Thankyou for the advice & help. PJ Its possible that for some reason ( could be the version or language packs installed or not installed, that may be causing the problem.

You can download Read Aloud from the following link
www.microsoft.com

When the page opens click on GET (right hand side,) the store will open, click on install, it takes a few moments, then click Launch, work through the couple of steps it provides.

1460056 2019-04-29 01:43:00 Ok All
I have got this sorted. A single book can be read with the Read Aloud programme. Kobo & Kinndle. Kobo wont play nice but I have a problem downloading books anyway. Kindle, looking thro all the small print I found that Kindle will do text to speech. Not like a Blind Book, but more voice read with no inflections or tones. More like robot speak. Better then nothing, I can understang it quite clearly. Thanks. PJ
