1463294 2019-08-28 11:18:00 Sometimes after adjusting the wheel alignment with worn tires refitted the car can still pull to the side. The trick is to bring the back tires to the front.

In wet weather, if the alignment's bad enough, getting the back tyres to the front is no trouble at all ;)

1463295 2019-08-28 21:31:00 The guy rotated them. The tyres are in good condition, near new with no wear yet.
Which is why I wanted it sorted, before wear occurred. Hence my comment about the ones who sell tyres vs those who don't..........

Tyres should be rotated every so often anyway....

1463296 2019-08-28 22:20:00 Tyres should be rotated every so often anyway....

urban myth ?
All that does it make the 4 tyres wear evenly (sort of)
Goes against the claims that the best tyres should allways be kept on the back
And Directional tyres arnt rotated, just moved back/forward .

"In some cases (for example, BMW) automobile manufacturers may recommend performing no tire rotation at all"
"In Europe tire rotation went out of fashion in the 1970s as a general practice"

Ive never bothered rotating tyres. I'd rather buy 2 tyres at a time than have to buy 4 at a time.

The reason for rotating tires is to equalize wear. Front tires wear a lot faster than rear tires because as you make turns there is more pressure on the outer edges of the front tires.
By rotating your tires, you will equalize wear, causing all of the tires to wearout at the same rate. Then, when the time comes to replace your tires, you can replace all four tires at the same time. That’s the reason for rotating tires, but is it really necessary?

So...I haven't really bothered.
We used to replace 4 at a time, mainly because we don't like different tyres on wheels.
But last car we did the front 2, then later the rear 2.
This time? Well depends how financial I am I guess. And the wear on them...

will I get this guy to rotate them? No.
will we DIY? Maybe, in theory, but more than likely it will get forgotten.

1463298 2019-08-29 03:54:00 If your tyres do not rotate wear is non-existant. You won't get very far either. :) CliveM (6007)

only true if all 4 dont rotate.

Even then, non rotating tyres on my spare parts car got all cracked from the sun. They got a final rotation when the wreckers took it away :)

I generally do 2 at a time, just easier to manage financially.

Conventional wisdom used to say put the new tyres on the front, these days thought the recommendation is to put the better pair on the rear. kumhotyre.co.uk

1463301 2019-08-29 09:25:00 i believe in rotating the tyres; if you jack up the car and give each wheel a half turn every evening, should a tyre deflate overnight the flat bit will be on the top where it is not too serious. R2x1 (4628)
