| 1460222 | 2019-04-28 22:38:00 | Had a problem with friend's WD MyCloud NAS drive when using File Explorer to check size of a folder with numerous sub folders. It only showed 8GB instead of 424GB (checked by SSHing into the drive). I think I know why, as it seems to stop at just over 10,000 files. So, I am assuming there is a 10K file limit on File Explorer. Was the same with xplorer2 - probably use same MS code? Anyone confirm, please? (Couldn't find answer by googling). |

The question is why is it only showing 8GB when its obviously larger, most of those NAS devices run some sort of linux with a couple of partitions, one for the OS the other for storage. 8GB sounds about right for the OS. You can have issues if too many nested folders , or filenames foldernames too long , or if there are folders than Win Explorer cant easily access . More likely its an issue with Win Explorer & a linux file system across a network . (?) Try accessing the NAS's admin/config pages through a webbrowser to see actual HD usuage . |

The NAS login config page is correct with its assessment of free space as is the SSH folder check. Haven't got the box here now so can't check the folder names etc. Never mind, it is healthy and is working fine. Just had a problem reconciling disk usage figures. Thanks for input, all. |
