1183951 2011-03-06 18:13:00 Gee reading about the fighting in Libya makes one think they are refighting the Desert Rats campaign again.

Tobruk, Benghazai, Sirte.

These are all names any ex World War Two servicemen will know very well.

1183954 2011-03-07 23:54:00 Why the hell isn't the UN doing something?

Why would they?

China and the EU have a lot at stake there, Gandalf's regeme is preferable with the unknown.

Mass rebellion, which is what we are seeing now, has a huge potential to turn into radicalized movement.

What the hell did the UN do in the bloodbath that was Sudan? Not a god damn thing. They're there now though for all it's worth.

1183955 2011-03-08 00:05:00 That BBC reporter with the silver hair, he has really got some guts, being their on the front line.

Pity someone cant drop some good arms to those guys, they are very brave taking on Ghadaffi's army .

But it does seem that his army is not very big or up to much.

I would not mind taking on his elite body guard in a wrestling match.

And yes the UN is useless, when have they ever acted quickly to stop a war etc ?

I think it may go back to about 1950 (Korea ?)

Libya has a very small army by (local standards). They have very little if any morale. Huge numbers a mutinous.
Most are waiting to see how things play out, to wind up on the winning team - of if nothing else neutrality.

Some will stay loyal till the end, there are many who owe everything to the colonel and have been with him for a long time.

The elite units are armed and trained ver well, and to a comparable standard with European forces. They will be the last to break, but once they do it's over.

1183958 2011-03-08 01:05:00 I just wish the rebels would win and sort out a government it may cause the price of diesel to fall.
Luckily I bought 33,000 litres and a zillion miles of diesel tax before last October to stop tax man from taxing any profit I might have.
