| 1183896 | 2011-03-06 03:51:00 | A matronly woman commissioned a portrait artist to have a larger-then-full-sized oil painting of herself to hang over the fireplace. Having just been married to a widower, she wanted this picture to be on his mind all the time so he might forget his first wife. As she posed for a few pictures to be converted into the oil painting, after she tried several poses the artist told finally her: 'Your portrait will be ready in six weeks'. She thanked him and six weeks later she returned to the unveiling of the painting and it was just beautiful, capturing her splendor and grace in exciting colors but she walked over to the artist and said: 'Where is the diamond broach and where's the five-carat diamond wedding ring and where's the matched diamond and topaz earrings?' The artist was quite taken aback, as he asked her: "I never saw those things on you; you weren't wearing them for the pictures; I would have painted them if I saw them'. 'Well, you'll just have to paint them in now and I'll return in a few days to pick up my portrait'. 'Madam, please tell me why you want these things painted on your portrait if you never wore them for the sitting?' 'Oh - I just want his next wife to go crazy searching all over the place trying to find them when I die. ' |
