1183669 2011-03-05 01:56:00 My friend in america tells me that his local supermarket delivers for free if your order exceeds $100. Does NZ have anything like that? Countdown seems to require a $13 charge for a $100-$199 order, and thats too expensive really(hell, if it costs $13 i might as well take the cab!). Question (15792)
1183670 2011-03-05 02:02:00 Way back in the olden days some of the local dairies or grocery shops used to deliver using a bicycle with a large basket on the front. Good after school job. Bobh (5192)
1183671 2011-03-05 02:36:00 No they don't.
The margins are way too thin to enable them to do that.

You seen how expensive NZ taxi's are?
By the way, what Internet did you end up getting in NZ?

1183675 2011-03-05 04:07:00 $250 the delivery fee is $7.95. if you order less than $100 the delivery fee is $15 and it is scaled down from there. pctek (84)

Nope, didn't. What do they charge? In Singapore it's like a $3 base charge, and it scales from there based on distance. I guess a 30 minute ride during off-peak hours normally costs around $10 there.

Turns out the place i am at has residential internet, but its on a trial run so we are limited to 20gb per flat at the moment. We cant check our usage, so its kind of risky at the moment, so im limiting my downloads and stuff.

The nearest supermarket is about 10-20 minutes walk away, the problem is walking it uphill while carrying groceries.

I don't take taxi's. Maybe the base rate is $5
A short ride in the city might cost an avg of $12.
30min ride might be $25-40 at a guess.

PS. The Singapore Lonely Planet book says SG is very cheap for taxi's and subways and it said the locals might even look at a person funny if they want to hitch a ride.

Maybe the bus is an option?

Depends on the place, when I was in Dunedin, the New World supermarket had a courtesy van that customers could use for free ....
