1183851 2011-03-06 04:07:00 I think Google offers a better payout compared to Apple, if I am not mistaken?

Thats correct, but the link also points to people that do it for all devices.
And if I'm not mistaken, the people that use google usually don't like paying for things. So PJ can keep 95% of takings on very little sales or 70% on a lot

1183854 2011-03-06 05:12:00 PJ,

Would it be true to say that your drawing skills for Maps and Characters are zilch, like mine, and you don't want to publish without same?

1183856 2011-03-06 22:38:00 Ok, I have read & digested all of the above & am rethinking.

Let me first say that there is NO MONEY in the kitty for any kind of publishing that involves evaluation of the product. Literary Agents & the like. It costs $$$ to have a manuscript read.

What may work is E-Books, as long as I can "Make" them myself. I had a Free Website, which has lapsed thro not being used. Snorkbox helped with the Site Work.

A major problem is the Artistic side, Sketches & Maps. I can barely draw a straight line. Any childrens book "Should" have pictures as well.

Plod is looking at one aspect of the project & I will wait & see what comes of it.

Another thing, I don't know if my work is just a load of rubbish!!!

Thanks everybody. PJ

PJ - have you thought about showing your drafts to local primary school teachers, children's librarians, remedial reading teachers, children (they will tell you if your stuff is boring!), someone like Joy Cowley in the Marlborough Sounds etc? They will tell you if your work has value for children and may give you some supporting letters.

If they give you a good appraisal, then publishers like Price Milburn, Wendy Pye, even School Publications (now called Learning Media I think) may be worth approaching with some supporting 'references' if you can get them from the people I have suggested.

1183859 2011-03-06 23:27:00 You can buy cheap quality photo's, art illustrations, banners, maps, backgrounds from stock photo sites, e.g. Big Stock Photo (www.bigstockphoto.com/), iStock (http:), Feature Pics (http://www.featurepics.com/), shutterstock, and more. 1000's of images to select from. I buy (and sell) sometimes for my blogs.

Or use free stock photo's - many use Stock.XCHNG (www.sxc.hu/), Flickr (applying of the creative common license), or from Google Images (again with license free attribute). You generally have to link to the artists/photographers profile if using free stock images. Generally though the best images are from stock pay to use sites, and are royalty free.

Guide for using Flickr Images (www.skelliewag.org) and different creative commons license categories for using free pics/art.

I've read a lot of authours notes. Every single one of them started by sending in manuscripts to editors of publishing companies. If it's crap they send it back and say so. If not, well....they may make suggestions for changes if interested.

None of them ever started off with an agent - some got one later. Some never did.
