1183160 2011-03-06 04:09:00 Yes, I'm not saying don't donate to the "Christchurch Earthquake Fund", I'm dissing lotto for using the earthquake as advertising to up there profits.

The Lottery is owned by the Government, so the profit either goes directly to the Community Groups or to the Government coffers. Either way the community benefits, only the people who buy losing tickets don't and that is their risk.

A lot of businesses do this, and I don't like it. I however don't think lotto are doing it , because they are just responding to earlier critism regarding the lotto powerball not going to christchurch, and that the end of the day lotto profits come back to NZers.

Not quite true.

Tickets that win a prize do not always cover the cost of buying said ticket even though it could be termed a winning ticket.

our work has made a high 4 figure donation to the red cross. We will receive no advertising or any acknowledgement from this except for a receipt for tax purposes. We have done plenty of promotional work for other companies that are fundraising for the appeal, but thats all good too. If it goes towards the cause, whats not to like
