1213710 2011-07-01 01:14:00 Has anyone actually installed the 64 bit version? I've installed the 32 bit version on heaps of Win7 x64 PCs, and it runs fine - I don't really see the need to go for the x64.

Is there a reason to? I'm guessing the main reason at this point in time would just be the ability address the extra RAM, but seriously, what office app would use more than a couple of gigs of RAM in the absolute worst case scenario?

Thanks. :)

1213711 2011-07-01 01:32:00 Maybe not so much as it needs the extra RAM as the way it uses particular address spaces.
I guess.
I haven't installed anything past version 2002 so I wouldn't know really.

1213712 2011-07-01 01:33:00 I have the 64 bit version running here. Only installed that version as I have a 64 bit O/S and I thought why not. Snorkbox (15764)

1213714 2011-07-01 01:36:00 I didnt even know there was two versions as it doesnt really ask you when you install it. I only found out when one of our other software's complained and i looked it up. depends whether you install in in program files or the x86 folder doesnt it?? Gobe1 (6290)

That's what I was after - thanks! :) Looks like I'll stick to installing the 32bit version for now.

1213716 2011-07-01 01:47:00 Hi wratterus

I have both x32 and x64 installed here.
The only difference I have found (probably not relevant to most users) is that it can handle HUGE images.

My work here involves some BIG image map files.
x32 can handle images of around(ish) 32000 x 32000.
x64 well I have not yet found the limit.

Apart from that - for me - no difference.

1213717 2011-07-01 02:10:00 One of the disadvantages of x64 - The addons have to be 64 bit to work. And there's not a lot of x64 addons around atm (if you use OL) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1213718 2011-07-01 02:15:00 Unless you really need the extra address space (massive workbooks etc), I'd stick with the 32-bit edition of Office for now. inphinity (7274)
1213719 2011-07-01 04:00:00 I've got Office 2010 x64 on both my netbook and desktop as I didn't see the point in running 32-bit software on a 64-bit OS when there's a 64-bit version available :p pcuser42 (130)
