1213060 2011-06-29 00:47:00 Hey Guys

I'm needing a UPS for my computer, but not sure what to get. I tried getting the Belkin AVR-800 and AVR-1200 but both have now been discontinued. Can anyone recommend a good UPS between $300-$500?

Thanks in advance

Thanks. But where do I buy it?

1213063 2011-06-29 02:40:00 What are you hoping to protect against? Most times the small UPS's won't power a PC for terribly long... Are you anticipating a small 30 second outage, or wanting to use your PC for an hour during a brownout?

I mostly recommend people get a UPS to cover their router, an ATA Adapter for phones (If they're on VoIP) and that's it. Use a Laptop if you need to get online during a power outage.

It's saved my bacon, personally, twice in 3 months!

This is my computer. A few more specs now, but nothing huge. www.computerlounge.co.nz I just want something that will last long enough for if I need to shut my computer down safely. The belkin was supposed to go up to 45 minutes.

I usually get p8ssed when people say try google in forums, but.....
google will find resellers of these
Let me do it for you :devil :punk
www.ascent.co.nz
www.etechonline.co.nz
etc etc

Ive sold a few of these, they arnt the cheapest but seem pretty good, so far.
Just remember, the batts wont last forever & may need to be swapped out in a few years.
Ive stopped replacing in batts in UPS's now, as all last ones Ive replaced batts on, the batt fault was caused by the circuitry & re-failed with a few months (or less)

1213067 2011-06-29 03:52:00 I’m wanting to plug in my tower, external HDD (as my computer runs some processes of this) and at least one screen. So really only need 3 plugs for backup, or even 4 would be fine. I’m just not sure what voltage I need. And I want it to last around 20-30 minutes at least. Would this be possible? Basically it’s just so if we have a power cut It gives me time to get to it and shut it down safely. dpDesignz (15919)
1213068 2011-06-29 05:40:00 20 -30 minutes ??

Blimey, doesn't take that long to save any open work & shut down a computer.

If you want long battery life then its going to cost ya!

Most of the cheaper UPS's $200 - $300 have 5 - 10 minutes of battery backup time at full load, longer if only at idle.

They all come with software, in the software, there are usually options, some have different options, but generally you can set them so when the power starts getting low in the battery (a certain percentage for example), the machine will automatically shut down as if you were doing it normally.

I can remember a few times when installing windows, and a power cut or problems hit, the UPS going nuts -- fingers crossed it would last long enough on battery to finish the install. :)

:). yea I'm thinking more when I'm working at camps and the sort if I need to get to the computer to shut it down. But I reckon 5-10 would be fine. Do you have any particular ones you would recommend?
