1215157 2011-07-06 09:37:00 I’m running XP (and IE8) with OE6. Just recently I have been having problems with downloading emails – it starts downloading and then just stops after perhaps 150Kb or so. I have tried all the usual tricks (deleting temp files, compacting, re-inserting pop3 and smtp server names, re-registering dll’s,) - even attempted to ‘create a new identity’ but this failed and I resorted to going back to a re-store point to find my mail again! The OE is not overloaded with mail and no big emails are being downloaded (I check using the web mail). The pc is running awfully slow too (maybe that’s the problem!).

On a separate computer (XP) I found I can run OE with no problems and retrieved all my mail as usual ie. it’s my pc that’s the problem.

I’ve searched the forums and google and as yet found no solution. Any advice which might allow me to sleep again and replace my lost hair would be appreciated.

1215158 2011-07-06 09:44:00 Might be a file thats stuck / or too big. I would login using webmail. And see if there are any big files in there. Then delete it / them Speedy Gonzales (78)

If your computer is going slow & you are getting corrupted files I would suggest checking your hard drive for bad sectors.

How's the best way of doing that?

1215161 2011-07-06 11:01:00 chkdsk using XP.

Ensure SP3 is installed preferably.

1215162 2011-07-07 06:51:00 Ran a check on the drive and although it didn’t come up with any report of a problem, OE now seems to be working normally – phwaaah! Thanks guys! One benefit of having problems, - I now know a lot more about OE !! kapkol (15132)
