| 1214925 | 2011-07-05 01:24:00 | A friend of mine is having trouble with ubuntu not booting. She is very new to ubuntu. I installed ubuntu and windows xp as a dual boot system. She can boot into windows ok but ubuntu is hanging at startup. Ubuntu was running ok but now fails to start. Even in recovery mode it hangs. Specs; AMD Athlon 7750 CPU: AMD Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition - AD775ZWCJ2BGH RAM:3GB DDR2 HDD: 280GB HDD IDE Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-US2H(awesome) Graphic: ATI Radeon HD 3200 Onboard with DVI and VGA She is really new to linux/ubuntu. | 1214927 | 2011-07-05 01:41:00 | Download Puppy linux and burn the .iso www.puppylinux.org/ - then you will have a live CD that you can use for all sorts of problems like this. Maybe you can use the live cd to reinstall grub boot loader but it does not look like a grub problem the live cd is a real asset to anyone as it loads in to ram and can be used for all sorts of repairs. |

| 1214928 | 2011-07-05 02:17:00 | Thanks for replies. Yeah, i'm sending down a live cd for her but she is not very computer savy thats why i was wondering if theres a linux user local to her. Not sure why it isn't booting up. She says that no updates have been installed. Even stranger that she cant boot into recovery mode. She may have to do a reinstall after i send the disc down? |
