1214098 2011-07-02 07:11:00 Hi, I'm trying to put together my first PC.
My budget is around $2000 and I will be using it only for gaming.
This is what I have so far:

Mobo: Asus P8P67 Pro B3 (thinking of changing to P8Z68-V Pro)
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K 3.5GHz
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 PC12800/1600MHz CL8 (2x4GB)
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD6950 2GB
HDD: Samsung SpinPoint F3 32MB 1TB
Case: LanCool Dragonlord PC-K63
PSU: Corsair CMPSU-750AX 750W

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

(for every comment donated, I will hug a llama)

Go find your llama. I love it.
Well the above anyway.

And congratulations on not putting a lame GPU in it.

1214100 2011-07-02 07:41:00 first: i put the i5 as 3.5GHz instead of 3.3.

second: thanks pctek. why did you choose the P8P67 Pro B3 over the P8Z68-V Pro? (as i'm new to building, im trying to stock up on info)

1214101 2011-07-02 08:03:00 I'm guessing you plan to overclock since you're getting a 'k' cpu... Might want to look at 2000mhz ram? What monitor are you going for? Dont forget a gaming keyboard to avoid ghosting and a good mouse

i wasn't really planning on ocing (just chance that i chose a 'k' cpu).
will the upgrade (1600 to 2000MHz) to the RAM only make a difference to ocing?

atm ill just be using my fullhd tv. But i may get a monitor later on if im not happy with the set-up.

mouse & keyboard: check.

1214103 2011-07-02 10:11:00 2000mhz ram is overclocked ram, so if you're not overly fussed on overclocking, stick to the 1600mhz, but maybe look at some corsair ram with xmp, and aim for cl7 timing if possible, but your choice of ram is great also. :)
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think ram is the main o.c bottleneck - cooling aside (don't overclock with stock cooling!).
BTW, I'm sure you will love gaming on the full hd tv, and I see no reason why you'll want a monitor instead, except for convenience.
I will also recommend a tube of arctic silver 5 thermal compound for the cpu, even if you're not overclocking.
Have fun and let us know if it doesn't boot the 1st time

And for choosing a good PSU too

thanks jareemon.
i looked into both the xmb and CL7 specs for RAM but decided what i already had should be enough.
now im wondering if i will be able to run crysis at medium setting on this build??

btw my llama hug counter is at 4! (see first post)

1214106 2011-07-02 12:37:00 Yes easily. I have a 460gtx and can run it max settings (1080p). However it's probably worth noting that a large number of cards below the 460 can run it max as well. BTW you should unlock god rays using console commands for extra gaming eye candy.
