1184541 2011-03-08 23:22:00 This is a bit of a random question really.

I have plans for a new tatt but the location is still in doubt so I wanted to see what the views here were as we have a good cross-section of people.

Do employers still frown upon visible tattoos?

I have a stable steady job and do not see a move any time soon but you never know, I would like to get this new one on the underside of my forearm but obviously this is outside the "shirt zone"

I should also mention that this is a CHCH memorial tatt, so there might be a little more tolerance towards it because of that.

What are your thoughts?

1184542 2011-03-08 23:33:00 Depends on the job. Work with public/clients? Probably not going to be happy with that. Don't deal with the public? Probably not an issues. Alex B (15479)

were you there
were you one of the rescued
injured?
same for family members?

Wow.... your tat would really help the people of Chch.
Perhaps donate the cost to Red Cross.

1184544 2011-03-08 23:34:00 Tats which cant be covered are a no no in any office environment, especially if you want to progress, and if you require a new job, it will be a strike against you...sorry....Mine is covered! SolMiester (139)

1184546 2011-03-08 23:44:00 I would never hire someone with visible tattoos, or a smoker, or some one who has bourbon and HD apparel.
Tats gross me out

1184547 2011-03-08 23:45:00 Be yourself.

If having that tatt is part of what makes you the person you are, and that in turn means a specific employer won't hire you then screw em, Its not the place for you anyhow.

Thats kind of how I see it.
But I can easily put in within the "shirt zone" and that might be best.

Was hoping the archaic attitudes might have changed but it seems not.

1184549 2011-03-09 00:08:00 I cover all my tattoos at work, but only because I sometimes have to go to meetings with Telecom and such. I don't think my workplace would mind and it's obviously fairly corporate. Siobhan Keogh (16063)
1184550 2011-03-09 00:49:00 My current job/employer wouldn't care either Siobhan.
Never know what future ones will think thou.

Hey I'll show you mine if you show me yours :)
