1185211 2011-03-12 02:25:00 Whilst not downplaying the enormity of the disaster - I've got friends in Tonga (Vava'u not Tongatapu) and Maui -the TV media click into their well worn routines. Last night both the main TV 1 and TV 3 News' hooked into a live Japanese tV feed and played that non stop, ad-nausium. No new information, gross speculation, repeats of the same news footage - just like they've done with both the Christchurch earthquakes and Pike River!! Bloody tedious.

On one of the helicopter clips of a flooded area the reporter, who felt he had to say something but didn't really know what was going on, actually said "things are very fluid down there!" :horrified

Man I feel better now last night my wife told me off for complaining about the jap tv feed repeating the same !@#$ over and over.
Isnt it possible for them just to shut the !@#$ up and just film?

Yeah - I got in trouble for the same thing after sayin the same thing about them saying the samethings when Pike River and ChCh (oops- I was going to say "Build 1" :horrified) 's 1st EQ happened.

The other thing is this need they apparently have to use PC language - they weren't "knocking down" or "demolishing" buildings - they were "deconstructing" (the spell checker says that word is wrong) them. You can imagine the reaction the digger driver would get if he said that to his mates in the pub.

To her credit the first person I saw (heard?) doing some straight talking in ChCh was the female coroner who used the words "dead" and "bodies" rather than wishy washy alternatives. It's a reality! - why try to gloss over the fact? It's not going to make it go away.

Ah....the terrible PC language again.
If you looking for bodies you don't knock down or demolish a building, you deconstruct it layer by layer from the top down.
As for spell checker.....bollocks......and it doesn't know that word either.

Also isn't possible for the NZ TV networks to knock off their ugly graphics over top of the JAP NHK ones..?? TVNZ looked like they were trying to outdo Sky News and BBC TV news..

1185219 2011-03-12 09:08:00 Japs do everything better than the rest of the world, including earthquakes.

Jokes aside, it's a hideous disaster, with many thousands likely to have perished horribly.
Such a pity of the SAR guys they had here, toiling to recover our own dead - now having to go home, exhausted, to a country facing disaster at a whole magnitude worse again - possibly even to the loss of their own homes and loved ones.
We owe them more than just our thanks.
