| 1184720 | 2011-03-14 13:58:00 | If any of these 'boycott BP' ideas and suggestions were in affect, would it actually work or are other main comapnies getting their supply from BP? | rob_on_guitar (4196) | ||

The US has smothered US dealers with so many fees and costs that the possibility of saving money for a future fee or tax is long gone and sucked the lifeblood out of a small business. There is no chance to save any more - not since the mid-1960s anyway. The dealers who own a station make less than a minimum wage laborer any more. . I dont understand why anyone would run a business like that let alone want to. It must break owners mentally. If they all decided not too, the gummit would have to change something real quick |

I popped into BP a couple of days ago to get some fuel and had to wait to pay for same while one very busy attendant was making coffees etc for a couple of car loads of travellers. I don't know why some of them are called service stations any more either for that matter. |

That's most likely the reason that they won't put EFTPOS at the pumps in NZ. People will bypass the crap food and drink section.. |

| 1184724 | 2011-03-14 23:54:00 | Our local BP is directly opposite a supermarket, yet people still pay inflated prices for crisps, drinks, magazines etc. when they could get them far cheaper across the road! Wish I had their kind of money - and I'd still go across the road!! No - on second thoughts we always plan ahead and take the stuff with us! | tuiruru (12277) | ||
| 1184725 | 2011-03-15 00:09:00 | Some Mobile Fuel Stations had credit and eftpos swipe at the pump itself. Not sure why they no longer work, security or cost of up keep or maybe like some suggested, eftpos at the pump means no counter sale of other goods. | PinoyKiw (9675) | ||
| 1184726 | 2011-03-15 01:45:00 | Another specter raises it's head. Credit cards cost the dealers to use. They get hit 3-5% for the customer's refund at the end of the billing period and you can bet the CC companies aren't gonna cough up the money to make their cards attractive. So - most dealers now only accept Debit Cards - these take money directly out of the account like a check or cash from a bank withdrawal, only electronically - and the credit cards purchases are either denied at the pumps or surcharged 5% to cover the dealers gross loss to his marginal margin. Some states have outlawed dual-tiered sales prices, so the dealers now just refuse to accept credit cards at all and post their prices as cash-only AMEX and Diners Club cards are globally NOT accepted by US merchants for gasoline sales either. The cost to the dealer is too high. |
