1184700 2011-03-10 22:58:00 Saudi and Iran and Venezuela all subsidise their petrol to keep their people happy.

The New Zealand government used to subsidise our milk that was why it was 4 pence a bottle in the 1960's.

IIRC a pint of milk was 4 cents post-10/07/1967...

(Oops. Another roddy_boy moment!!! Sorry :o :p)

That is why we all grew up to be big healthy boys and girls who are now driving gas guzzling cars.

1184702 2011-03-11 00:25:00 "Saudi and Iran and Venezuela all subsidise their petrol to keep their people happy." True but they also make the stuff there, we could do that also if they had the facilities and be self sufficient Gobe1 (6290)
1184703 2011-03-11 01:08:00 We make butter and milk and cheese and timber and fish here.
And "we" dont subsidise it.

I find wood is very dear for a country full of it. And everyone knows we cant afford to buy snapper etc.

All subsidise means is that the government takes tax of us, and gives it back in the subsidy. What is the point of that ? Its like working for families, they take tax of high income earners and give it back to them.

And it probably causes a lot of bureacrary for every one, and therefore costs more in the long run.

1184704 2011-03-11 01:25:00 Agree with above. It costs X amount of dollars to run the country. If we remove tax of Petrol then the government has to tax us elsewhere. Battleneter2 (9361)

Which is, of course, the reason why I keep smoking.

If I didn't then the Country will go broke.

1184707 2011-03-11 03:30:00 NZ'ers seem so bamboozled by the manipulations/B.Sh..ting of the right wing capitalists and the programming by the State whilst they are at school over the years it seems as if no-one has any common sense any more.

THE DEFAULT MODE OF THE CORPORATIONS IS TO RIP EVERYONE OFF ALL THE TIME AND WHEN THERE ARE MONOPOLIES THERE ARE NO RESTRAINTS IF THE GOVERNMENT IS IN THEIR POCKETS AS IN n.z.

1184708 2011-03-11 03:37:00 I have no idea why it's called common sense as it's hardly common. Snorkbox (15764)
