| 1184472 | 2011-03-10 17:28:00 | I enjoyed my time at Auckland uni. Didn't think it was too sprawled, and it's close to the city for pubs, clubs and cafes. Can't comment on the residence halls though. | Greg (193) | ||

A recent comment I've heard re the lack of Dorm Culture is probably due to two factors - student loans making residents feel they can spend more - consequently they go out rather than socialise within the facilities, plus the proximity to so many trendy spots designed to farm the students for their cash, and the trend in Auckland for folks to get dressed up and pretend they're fancier than the rest of us backward townies. Chances are the student population is split - one half spending up on their loans in order to socialise with the yuppies, and the other half being more prudent with their cash are ferriting themselves away in their rooms in order to minimise their debts. |

Some of them would walk to uni in the morning and carry their toast and coffee then toss the coffee cup into the leith river :D Clyde St, St Davids St, Cumberland St or 2nd floor above the shops on George St. :p The yrs I was there, never took one bus/taxi apart from once when I moved flats, the guy swore at me and threw my stuff out cos he couldn't be bothered in doing a electronic transaction. He then took whatever money I had in my wallet. $5 student health visits, subsidised student dental. A pub and STA, post office one block from the central library. They have the most halls - about 10 isn't it or more. Many have also built senior wings that caters to more mature students and they can do their own cooking or eat in the main building. They have a proper food court thingy with some selection. If you lived in Acquinas Hall, it's up in the hill, so they have a regular van service. If you had late classes like science labs - 6-9pm they also provide you a voucher that you can purchase dinner on campus. Victoria is too small. There is this one cafe shop which does everything, narrorw walk way like walking into a dodgy pub - the one next to the Maclaurin lecture theatres. Then there are canteen caravans outside where the deck is. Why don't they have something permanent, put it in one place and give people choice and a space where they can just sit and mingle. |
