1215135 2011-07-06 00:29:00 Hi

I have been wanting to add a favicon to one of my Chrome shortcuts for a website that doesn's have its own favicon. I found the following set of instructions on the internet but it doesn't want to work for me. Is there an easier way or can someone see a mistake in the instructions?:

1) In Chrome, go to the website that has the icon you want.
2) Close Chrome completely (or you won't be able to continue)
3) Use SQLite ( sourceforge.net ) to open the "History" file located at C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome \User Data\Default (where YOUR_USERNAME is obviously your username) if you have Windows 7 (or Vista)
4) Click on the Browse Data tab and choose "urls" from the table dropdown.
5) Click the magnifying glass icon to search (choose "url" in the dropdown and "contains" in the second dropdown and search for your website you want the icon from)
6) Double-click the line from the search results you want and it will find and highlight the line in the urls table.
7) Scroll over to the "favicon id" column and remember or write down the number in the box for that row.
8) Search again (see steps 5,6)... except this time search for your bookmarked website that you want to customize the icon for (alternatively this could be a javascript bookmarklet instead of a website)
9) After finding it, scroll over to the "favicon id" and double click it to edit it. Replace the number there with the one you wrote down earlier in step 7
10) Apply changes and then Save and close.

Thanks

1215136 2011-07-06 01:09:00 If you have a particular picture/Icon you want to use, and its saved to your PC, Just tried it in IE and it works perfectly ( fav Icon) right click the link, Properties, change icon, navigate to the picture, select it, apply/OK, and its changed.

"may" work with Chrome ??

Copy your new favicon.ico to your web site in same folder as index.html.
In index.html between head and /head insert this:
<link rel="SHORTCUT ICON" href="www.myplace.co.nz
(but use your place not myplace!)

Yeah that is dead easy to do in IE as you say. However there is no option in Chrome (that I can see).

Thanks Wainuitech but that doesn't want to work for me either. Must be me...

FYI, the reason for wanting to do this (for me) is that I have my bookmark bar showing the icons only which I find is great, however it makes bookmarking websites that don't use an icon a little difficult to recognise...

I've only ever used IE prior to trying Chrome about 3 months ago and I found I liked Chrome much better than IE9. However maybe I should give it another shot or try something else.

Thanks
