1184670 2011-03-09 06:16:00 Can;t remember where I got the attached, so apologies if it's off another thread.

Could be any oil company really.

Anybody got contacts in other countries? What are they paying at the moment?

AS for the increase in the price of diesel - I'm glad I took mine off the road for a year just before Christmas!

1184671 2011-03-09 09:19:00 From Saturday's NZ Herald,
In 1929, an average American would have paid 1.49% ($1.27) of their annual income ($84.90) for a barrel of oil,
in 1973 oil was $31.61 a barrel or 0.39% of an annual income of $7956,
in 2008, oil was $96.91 a barrel or 0.26% of an income of $35,931

Something to think about

1184672 2011-03-09 09:22:00 petrol stations are showing porn at the pumps, so you can watch somebody else get screwed while you get screwed plod (107)
1184673 2011-03-09 09:46:00 The NZ Govt is responsible for 88 cents of the $2.16 we currently pay per litre. There is an excise tax and then GST on top which makes it a tax on a tax. Snorkbox (15764)
1184674 2011-03-09 19:12:00 Funny that its not actually the oil companies that force the price up but the fact that oil can and is bought and sold on the stock market as a commodity gary67 (56)
1184675 2011-03-09 19:38:00 I suspect that the fuel that we are buying at the wonderful new price has been in the country for about a month. profiteering at it's best.. paulw (1826)
1184676 2011-03-09 20:10:00 I read somewhere the other day they are paying $3 a litre in the UK.

1184678 2011-03-09 20:50:00 Four or five years ago when I visited Europe, petrol and diesel were approximately the same price (no stupid RUC over there on diesel), and in Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary and Czech the price was about 1.25 Euros.

At that time the Euro was about NZD2.00

Although it's nice (and natural, and expected) to complain about the price of fuel here, we're not as badly off as some places.

Not that that is a reason NOT to remove the rort that is a tax on a tax!!!

Excise = tax
GST = tax

1184679 2011-03-09 22:20:00 Price rise has been solely responsible for making me bike to work this week. Have to say Im a lot less stressed after making the journey to and from work and the slight change in weather has been making the ride quite pleasant. Barnabas (4562)
