1215873 2011-07-10 06:41:00 I am looking at getting a laptop which will be able to handle playing first person shooters and possibly racing. I don't have the biggest budget to spend.

I have found the Lenovo G570 which i am quite interested in

Any recommendations for around $1150?

1215874 2011-07-10 07:51:00 Generally speaking, the Lenovo isn't the best bang for buck. I did a quick search for the G570 and it's a Thinkpad; that's a business line.

Lenovo's consumer series is Ideapad but those are still not as bang for buck as the ones you get in toaster shops.

It's $999 ex GST. I think one of the toaster shops have these 1GB dedicated v-ram for around $899 ..... But then again I have no idea how good that 1GB is.

1215875 2011-07-10 08:04:00 I know that graphics isn't the greatest but it seems good for the price. The G570 i found at PBTECH is the best for the price i am wanting to spend. If I had more money then i would go for something better. But my funds are limited Jellymeat (16420)
1215876 2011-07-10 08:17:00 You can have a look at the toaster shops for around $899? Maybe that is the same to your G570. Maybe spend the same amount and bit quicker?

I mean the Thinkpad would be more expensive because it is a enterprise laptop that is more reliable but certainly comes at more cost.

1215877 2011-07-10 08:29:00 I'd look at the Asys A53SV series, you could be able to find one with an i5-2410M, 4GB RAM and a GT540 1GB card (imo a tier above the 6370 in the Lenovo you've linked) for around $1100. Be aware there are several variations in the A53SV range, so check that it's the i5 one, not the i3 (worse performance) or i7 (more $$) ;) inphinity (7274)
1215878 2011-07-10 08:54:00 Yeah thanks for that it looks nice and the graphics card is about 2x better than the G570. Would it be worth upgrading the ram to 8gb? Jellymeat (16420)
1215879 2011-07-10 08:54:00 I'd look at the Asus A53SV series i5-2410M, 4GB RAM and a GT540 1GB card for around $1100.

You were told you couldn't get a proper gaming PC (laptop) for what you want to spend. www.pressf1.co.nz

This above is a better choice, but even then, the GPU isn't exacyly FPS material.

Why a laptop.
For gaming desktops rule. And you can upgrade them.
The one you have now is not bad, why not just upgrade the GPU in it???

It's what I do - change parts now and then, eventually the system morphs into something else..........a whole lot cheaper than tossing the lot and starting from scratch (which is unnecessary too).

If you just wanted facebook games or low end RPGs or something, fine, but FPSs are what drives the PC hardware industry.

1215881 2011-07-12 01:56:00 Thats $1500, though, which is a big jump from your initial budget of around $1k, but yeah it's a decent value laptop that will do some reasonable gaming. inphinity (7274)
1215882 2011-07-12 02:20:00 Yeah i know but i thought i better try and get something with better graphics i could get that laptop form alphacity for $1400. Jellymeat (16420)
