1185475 2011-03-15 00:14:00 Haha!

No, she didn't take it - the grandsons would probably wreck it!

And I think I am expected to use it at least once whilst she is away (like about an hour before I leave to pick her up at the airport).

Quinten Crisp ( . bbc . co . uk/2/hi/uk_news/211644 . stm" target="_blank">news . bbc . co . uk) had something to say about dust - after a while it doesn't get any thicker!

Attached is some other advice :waughh:

1185478 2011-03-15 02:07:00 Well, for what it is worth, we replaced our vacuum cleaner recently, and SWMBO bought a bagless DC23 Dyson. I tried placing Consumer reviews extolling the virtues of Miele under her nose, I reminded her of the upright Dyson we had where all sorts of plastic things fell off; in short, I tried manfully to talk her out of getting another Dyson.

I failed. She wouldn't even go with me to the vacuum cleaner shop - insisted on going alone, which is when I knew there would be a Dyson coming. Sure enough, Dyson #2.

It works well, looks cool, it isn't an upright (yes, there may be a god after all), so it won't get bashed around trying to get under the furniture like the old one. It also fits in the only conceivable cupboard in the house (mind you, a Miele would have as well), and we don't have to buy bags or replace filters. Finally, and this is the clincher, She is happy. She would have been resentful if I had got my way.

Or worse, you might have been made SOLELY responsible for the vacuum cleaning!!

1185480 2011-03-15 17:52:00 Well, I'd suggest you insist on turning on a model in the shop before you buy. THe cheapo model at work screams. A minute with it running is torture, and a recipe for a headache.

Consumer magazine used to report that upright vacuums were more efficient than those with pipes and hoses.
Wouldn't touch a battery powered model for domestic use - might as well use the stick on a post-it note to try to pick up the muck.
