Wool, fleece, etc? Wool will retain heat when wet. Fleece won't but they are quick drying and lightweight. But walking outside in the rain isn't gonna affect it in my experience, caving, rafting, swimming yeah .... FWIW fleece should be fine in Auckland. I spent the first 4yrs in Dunedin with a Kathmandu 300 series fleece jacket - I didn't wear thermals, I did have a woolen jersey (and a t shirt and a cotton shirt) and a acrylic wolly hat - that was fine too, I have also used that recently in Mt Ruapehu for skiing. When it was pouring down, I used a lightish fleece jacket that had a sorta water resistant zipped together waterproof (shell) jacket. Got that some 20yrs ago from Canada I think. Discovery Bay is the name. |

They are obviously not to be used for long durations under a big down pour - use your water resistant jacket/raincoat and use the water resistant hood over your head. Or use an umbrealla instead of the water resistant jacket. | Nomad (952) | ||

"New Zealanders can once again set sail with the welcome return of Line 7; polos, shorts, shirts, jackets, vests- its all there in the Autumn/Winter 2011 mens range which will hit the shelves before the end of February. The much loved brand has gone back to its roots and is re-launching into the market under the guidance of new owner and successful textiles company Charles Parsons &Co Ltd." |
