I think NZ govt is being generous enough for such a small tax base in our low population. We struggle now, just trying to fix all the earthquake mess, without having some other country telling us we should pay them more. I knew that no good would come from Helen Clark's free trade with China agreement. LL |

Tragic that the students lost there lives and hopefully it won't be anyone's fault other than the earthquake itself but if my only child had been in China and was killed in a earthquake or other disaster there, am fairly confident that if I asked for a payout let alone a extra payout, I would probably be referred to clause 13, paragraph 4, sub clause 3c of the travel insurance policy assuming they even replied to my request. As for the students themselves, many, not all, but a large number of them all the same, are not that poor, often they come from better income families and often they are sent international, NZ or Australia to "learn" English etc just so the family can get some peace. Some of them are genuine students and do study hard, but many treat there "learning" here as a holiday away from the family. |
