1185267 2011-03-12 03:05:00 Nuclear power in NZ. I'm for it.

Before anyone asks I would not mind having one built handy to where I live either.

1185268 2011-03-12 03:11:00 All good when running as meant to, but have to agree with Garys comment - "I would prefer them to be built somewhere where the earth is actually stable"

Other wise very well could be - Picture says it all (www.imagef1.net.nz) :D

1185269 2011-03-12 03:26:00 Probably right Wainuitech. Loved the cartoon. There again modern Nuclear power plants can't be compared with the likes of Chernobyl etc in my opinion. Snorkbox (15764)

They will even learn from this one.

Better pumps etc.

1185271 2011-03-12 06:18:00 Imagine working in one of those two Japanese plants.

The pressure is 1000 times normal and we may be heading for a meltdown.
The backup generators are not working.
The people living near them are being evacuated.

You'd be looking at you watch thinking what time do I knock off.
Or trying to sneak out of the office or the plant.
What if your shift started in a few hours ?
Would you go to work ?

Or would you stay there and try to bring things under control?

Those guys will be earning their money this week !

Chernobyl anyone ?

1185272 2011-03-12 06:21:00 Agree also, Hydro is very cheap compared to Solar and Wind. Obviously more environmentally friendly than Oil or coal not to mention cheaper.

True. But then why is the ETS charged on water generation as well?? The answer most likely is "Gimme more tax"

1185273 2011-03-12 07:01:00 No, too dangerous if something goes wrong.

And I'm pretty sure we have enough power already anyway, I've never had my power cut off because there wasn't enough.
