Apart from the very top , who are beyond all this. |

Good point. What ever happened to "as long as it doesnt hurt anyone else you can do what you like?" As I (may have) mentioned before, smoking does hurt others in the form of second-hand smoke. ;) |

To be quite honest I have had just about as much as I can take with smokers at work. |

And lost productivity when the boss spends time posting on PressF1 and/or checking behind the hedge for smokers etc? |

As a lad, you couldn't see the screen at pictures for cig smoke, yet bugger me, we are all alive to tell the story. Terry will tell you about it, he remembers everything. |

As a general rule, smokers will use that excuse to take extra and longer breaks - but its just an excuse for slacking off. I never take extra/longer breaks than anyone else. Same applies to the taking sick days - most of the time people need to harden the **** up. Got a headache? I'm sorry, come to work anyway you slack son of a ***** - smoker or not. |

Terry will tell you about it, he remembers everything. Very true indeed, and the square screen used to be the size of a pocket handkerchief. We also had to queue in those days to get into a picture palace, being entertained by strolling buskers as we waited. When we did get in it would be half way through the main picture, having stumbled through the dark to find a seat vaguely pointed out by an usherette waving her torch, so first of all we saw the ending, and then had to sit through the 'B' picture, the cartoons, Pathe News, ads, then see the beginning of the main film before getting up and going out half way through. I remember losing my girl friend in the dark this way once, and didn't find her until the lights went up. Yet, I don't remember coughing or spluttering much if at all as people lit up all around, we were probably immune, or inured to it. One did need 20/20 vision to see the screen though. |
