| 1215859 | 2011-07-10 05:50:00 | Hi, I have a problem with my PC, its an AMD 64 Xs 6400+ with 4gigs of RAM running MS Vista, its not over clocked, dont play games - listen to music, surf web, odd graphics stuff. It will shut down with no warning, no BSOD's, when being used or even when no-one using it the power indicator will continue to flash slowly once it is off, to restart need to turn off main switch on rear even with that off the power light continues to flash, have to unplug from mains till light stops then it starts up fine - no messages in Event Viewer, as I write this the temp (using Core Temp) shows Core 0 at 42, Core 1 at 37. I've run RAM check software - no problems indicated, HDD shows healthy using Disk Keeper. I've uninstalled both the Graphics Card and the Sound Card to see if fresh install (new drivers, old ones removed) helps but to no avail. It can go all day and not do it then do it a number of times a day - suggestions? any help appreciated. Thanks Tony |

It would need powering off entirely, I can't recall if via the mains or holding the power button, since I haven't used it in so long. It did only used to do it occasionally though. I would put it down to my terrible HP generic 250w psu. Similar situation here perhaps? |

(slightly off topic but I've had a machine that turns off completely once or twice a week, bang just turns off. Then it re-boots all OK. I have finally put it down to my graphics card I have taken it out and have had no problems for a week) |

You'll corrupt something sooner or later Thanks for the reply but it isn't going into sleep mode certainly sleep mode isnt set in power settings. If it was sleep mode wouldnt it happen in a regular or patterned way? I've never used sleep mode on any of my computers or laptops so cant really say I know anything about it. I suspect it could be my power supply but then it is the same power supply that can go all day without turning off. |

That is about how it goes and yes I am suspecting my power supply its just that it is so random from many times in a day to days without doing it - I turn the computer off each day, sometimes when being used sometimes when not. Thanks for your ideas. |
