Would you be happy green? selfsufficent?
Would you want a superyacht?
Would you want to be able to upgrade you car every 3 years? or happy with your 94 corolla?

Im still thinking but.......

:clap

Im thinking 2 million would be about right for me maybe three so i can have some toys and buy a house first with a bit of land, a couple of acres
Keep it simple, money in the bank and some term deposits (not financial inst ... .Bugger them)

EDIT: I guess it depends on your bucket list

I am retired.

Don't need a cruise and it's against the bylaws if you are in ChCh.

I am partially self sufficient as I grow veges.

Superyacht no.

Happy with my 95 RAV4

1186623 2011-03-16 00:16:00 Need or want? Two different things.
I'd need what I need now I suppose.
Not likely to get it though.

What got me thinking of this:
My brother is a farmer who know another farmer who retired 30 years ago with 125K (yes you could do that then, with probably a third of that) but he is still alive today.......So would 2 million be enough if you were still going to be alive in say 50 years...me thinks not

You are only going to be able to retire if your income/interest out weighs your expenses.

And my friend is 40 odd lives on a farmlet "almost" selfsufficent, extremely thrifty, and considers himself retired. I agree with him, he is enjoying his lifestyle and young children so why not. Just need to set his homebrew up:banana

1186627 2011-03-16 00:26:00 I consider myself to be semi retired as I only work part-time at the moment and I am living in in the home I will retire to. I do not have expectations of a high life style but I will be able to get by when I retire fully in two years time. Bobh (5192)
