1217379 2011-07-17 11:59:00 Hi

Looking for a reasonably capable video card (PCI-e) for a shuttle H67H3 PC. Needs to be single slot as will have a Creative Soundcard in the adjacent PCI-E 1 slot.

It doesn't need to be a world beater quality card but pretty capable all the same. Note that the Shuttle PC model in question has a 300W PSU.

Thanks

1217380 2011-07-17 20:50:00 I have an Asus hd5450 fanless and have been quite impressed with how good it is, it's not for gaming I use it so I can have dual monitors and run CAD (solidworks) on it gary67 (56)

May be helpful, coincidentally just read it the other week. Toms comparing single slot cards. Not a great range but worth a read

Cheers, thanks for that link. I was suspecting that my choice range would be limited ...

Because of both the single slot requirement and the PSU confines of the Shuttle chassis.

1217385 2011-07-20 10:42:00 How does the 5450 compare to the likes of the 9600/9800 series from Nvidia? Chemical Ali (118)

To link toms again.

The final page has a chart showing in broad terms the relative gaming performance of graphics cards. Not so much which is absolutely the fastest, but grouped into what cards will play games at the same settings at comparable framerates.

It shows a 9600GT as roughly equivalent to a HD 5570. I should note the chart takes no account of DX9 - 10 - 11 support. Older cards sometimes don't perform to the level of the newer cards in the same tier of the chart in DX11 type games

1217388 2011-07-23 11:41:00 If you do go fanless make sure the computer has good cooling overall, because fanless cards (except the really low-end ones) are usually designed to use the cooling already present, and in a small and cramped case may overheat. Agent_24 (57)
