1217104 2011-07-15 05:39:00 Hi All,
My neighbour's Dell PC has an issue with Vista not booting. It get's stuck on the Vista boot up screen (with the loading bar) and stays scrolling but doesn't load..

Tried a windows start up repair but hasn't fixed it... any ideas on what this could be?

Cheers.

1217105 2011-07-15 06:10:00 Could be a driver issue, boot the PC in safe mode, see if it loads, if it does, then go into msconfig, and disable every thing that is not required.

If it starts in safe mode, Try this ( I think this works in safe mode - cant remember) click start, type in reli select reliability and performance monitor, when it opens Reliability monitor, look at the errors, it should tell you whats hanging.

1217107 2011-07-15 07:01:00 We've had a number of machines in the workshop in the last few days, running Vista, that look like they have crashed as they just have a black screen.
Must be a Windows update because if you reset the machine it does say the usual please wait updating windows and then the screen goes black.
If you just leave the machine for about 5 minutes it does actually eventually log in to Windows and after that everything is fine.
People just need to learn to be patient :D
