1188305 2011-03-24 09:57:00 So they sucked at repair and stole your wireless card and do copyright infringement...

Sound like a bunch of useless idiots to me.

Best thing to do is tell everyone you know how crap they are and hopefully put them out of business!

1188306 2011-05-03 10:06:00 We prefer not wasting time to reply fake complain and usually leave it to public to decide . As I've seen a few others that were totally lie! I’m sorry to see after hard effort and keep informing the customer during all time he’s trying to put more anger on his fake claim as we explained here and you will noticed at the end of this page it’s pretty normal and shouldn’t expect much from people with such a personality .

So I replied this complain only because I noticed after doing a hard work and spending near $1000 on a $200 job we should learn a bit more after near 25 years being in IT industry . here is the other side of story …
His laptop came in while output on external display (randomly) and Mr . D (Not John) said it’s been already checked and need the video repair . Based on information and similar case we done the video chip but still no joy! In that time we had no other match to his motherboard in stock so couldn't do much but we took a risk and purchased a used DV9000 at ~ $350 + GST + (Auction buyers premium) and take the challenge to make the customer happy (invoice is Available) .
Bear in mind that we already quoted the job around $200 . 00!!!! we accept buying new parts because after we explain to customer it’s not only the video issue only and we need to replace the whole motherboard and possible other parts that it’s not economical to fix but he insist that when I had my laptop sometimes shows on external output and now it rarely happen! we explained the reason but if you’ve been in tech and service industry you know sometimes customer plays and shows a kind of like "I don't understand" so you prefer to save yourself time and give up . so possible you know what I’m talking about .
Long story but in that time as usual we took the customer right and accept to fix the problem at our own expenses .
After putting the new motherboard noticed still fault there! So we find out for some unknown reason the new MOBO find the same fault too and even does not work on the original case after we tried on original purchased unit .

And yes we kept him informed during all the process as he was calling almost all days and he keep asking if he supposed to paying more and we replied no and we’re trying our best and when we do our best to stand on our word .

I asked the tech who done the work and check by own as well and somehow find out what it could be and the risk of taking further steps . considered already lost another MOBO we did our best to make the laptop as it was and not taking further risk as we had a clue for what it could be and giving warranty could make story longer and longer . I’ve to say it’s unlikely we use auctions to obtain parts as they can’t be trusted considering we give warranty for all jobs we do . but unfortunately at that time we could not find any match motherboard from any local source and he was keep calling almost all days and showing abusive/ anyway we couldn’t find even a replacement form HP as the laptop was no longer supported .

Next step we tried overseas supplier and took a risk to purchase a new DV9000 MOBO that later on find out coming from Japan instead of Aus . !!! (eBay item # 310280558141)

After twice trying and payment (long story) the second time paid on EBay the guy sent us the motherboard with a huge delay using EMS and 10 days week delay is initial dispatch time . we informed him all the time during the process and showed him purchased parts, payments, etc . and he already seen all online documents and tons of emails gone because of delay of supply . finally the new motherboard arrived at the time NZ custom was in New Year holiday .

When we used the new MOBO on the faulty machine after a while generate the same fault! means showing output on the external screen only .

So there were only two options left:

1 - STOP AND RETURN THE JOB (consider still in the same condition he gave us) .
2 - Trying more and spend more money on parts and time to fix and taking more risk and give a warranty too for someone who’s been pain all the time and even does not appreciate after seeing what we done and how much time and money we spent that exceed the agreed quotation .
I’ve to tell that usually each year we’ve one or two nasty jobs in hands like that . Now I believe we shouldn’t even bothered and showing that any respect to this job! so we took the first option (STOP DOING MORE WORK, TIME, MONEY) and close the case considering unpredictable behaviors and faults from the begin and warranty we give to all jobs .

After new year holidy we asked him to come and have a look on the job and we done so far, showed him the parts, invoices, EBay accounts and his old faulty motherboard etc .
so explained him he’s in fact taking the laptop with our new motherboard inside but we prefer not doing any more work than what we done so far consider we’ve spent near $800 . 00 at least only on parts and shipping from overseas and ignoring time we’ve spent (also replying funny 007 like questions that customer asking at the time) .

So pack the laptop while he was attending there and give the laptop all in one peace and ONLY charge $78 total based on customer gesture policy and accept the lost because of parts, time etc . and he was pretty happy with he left and showed understanding our hard effort for what we done too!

Later on after a few weeks he emailed that laptop been fixed (with our new installed motherboard!) and there was a Mini PCI Wifi card missing so he has to pay $170 for it while sending a PDF inv . from a computer shop in North shore which I don’t put the name it here … .

I replied if there was anything missing he must tell us or give us a call or at least sending us an email before he take any action and paying for it and see how we reply him consider what the way we served the job and accept all kind of lost and …! so that way we could check and even if there wasn’t such a things (which I believe nothing missing at the time he took the laptop) a mini PCI Wifi cards cost only $20 to $30 and we have many of those stock . wasn’t a huge lost consider the previous cost and not a big issue either . his claim for charging us $99 + GST for installing a MINI PCI card (two screws at the back) and $71 for the parts does for total about $170 does not sounds acceptable .

And yes, I do accept our biggest mistake in tech was being so kind and ignoring our time, resources and money for someone who we didn’t know and possible hadn’t experienced such a service in his life which cause him become … even accused us to taking his Wifi card!

While I did my best to explain the technical side I preferred ignore the rest of junks and claim and not wasting more time for replying all offensive and abused he tried! sorry for quick typing and hope you could figure out .

BTW, he already seen how many time we've emailed the seller on eBay with the "where is my item" subject but if anyone has doubt I could put an image from eBay here . so it was pretty obvious that we informed him parts coming from overseas as none exist in NZ and it was out of control consider the type of source supplying the parts .

Now I do warn all those behind who setting up such a thing by keep posting false story and using false ID! seriously I keep recording all and will do the right things in the right time . and if you consult you will know that you have not enough in your pocket to defend your take posts .

Personally I don't think I shouldn't even waste my time and reply such a fake claim but as consider if there be no reply some may consider it as true story .

1188307 2011-05-03 10:21:00 It doesn't sound like the OP was wrong - what you just said pretty much agrees with their original post. You had their laptop for an unacceptably long time, and were unable to fix it. In the process, the WiFi card was removed from the computer, and was not returned.

The OP then had the laptop repaired by another company - this repair was quick, and fixed the problem. He also had them install a replacement WiFi card, and according to you he forwarded the invoice to you.

The steps you took in trying to fix the thing are irrelevant - at the end of the day, you had it for weeks and couldn't fix it, despite multiple motherboard replacements. Were I in the OP's shoes I'd never let you near my machine again, so I'm not surprised at the way things turned out.

1188308 2011-05-03 10:43:00 ...Personally I don't think I shouldn't even waste my time and reply...

And yet you obviously spent a serious amount of your time composing a 1440 word reply (your first post in the Forum), to defend the indefensible. :stare:

1188309 2011-05-03 11:02:00 Bad power circuit to the tubes that light up the screen? ... happens all the time to desktop LCDs. Paul.Cov (425)
1188310 2011-05-03 11:10:00 Wow "Approved Computer Repair" in Maori on the last line of the website - that's going the extra mile.

How many Kiwi techs have made that much effort?

1188311 2011-05-03 13:07:00 Interesting... your story sounds believable (as Erayd said, it matches up with the complaint from the OP)... but there are two things I don't understand:

1) Why a company who claims to have been in the IT business for 25 years failed to repair the laptop quickly, especially when another was able to fix it in 5 days. One would think someone with such a long history would have the ability and resources to do such a repair a lot faster. (I know that sometimes faults can be hard to figure out for the best of us, but the story here does sound a bit strange)

This is compounded by the post from R2x1 who doesn't seem to think much of your business either... Perhaps 25 years of service just doesn't mean 25 years of good service.

2) Why a company who claims to have been in the IT business for 25 years has an apparently serious lack of understanding of basic English grammar... doesn't exactly inspire confidence, if you know what I mean.

Bonus question:

When you stated "Based on information and similar case we done the video chip" - did that involve a toaster oven and an egg-timer? :p

Nah, I'm sure after 25 years in business you can afford a proper BGA rework station.... right?

PS: what's this (yellow.co.nz)?

In Business Since 2001... I wonder if that's accurate... but that would mean... no... it can't be!

Does this mean your "Date recovery (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz)" really DOES work??

1188312 2011-05-03 13:51:00 Do they still have their huge parts?

When I went in there, there was a cabinet of old computer parts, lots of iMac G5's and quite a few partly-disassembled laptops behind the counter. I then asked the lady at the counter for directions to PB Tech -- I assumed she was the owner.

Their website could do with a few improvements...

And anyway, what if I want to pay via deposit? :horrified

What if I don't want box damage either? (catalogue (www.gigacomputers.co.nz))

Oh, and they ship to "Easland" as well. And internation. BTW, it seems a bit worrying they have a fan with "good pull clean? (www.gigacomputers.co.nz)"

1188313 2011-05-03 14:07:00 I guess being Chinese can explain the grammar problems... but it makes me wonder why they didn't just hire someone who can speak English properly to run their website... Agent_24 (57)
1188314 2011-05-03 14:21:00 Editing time expired...

And anyway, if you do web design, then why doesn't your website display correctly in Chrome?

Another thing: Why isn't your homepage laid out in a nice, clear way? I mean, all I saw were just lots of unnecessary links. If you take a look at PB Techs website then you'll see how neat and tidy it is.

Your website has (literally) links spewing out everywhere, fractured English, and strange image viewing. Really, why can't you just easily click once on the image to make it big? And why does the "products" link lead right back to the homepage?

You really need to also refine the great English on it as well. I mean, is there really a place such as Ho Kitika, Easland or Internation? And what about the "Add to card" button, or the fan with "good pull clean? (www.gigacomputers.co.nz)"
