Doesn't surprise me. I hate adobe so hard.
(or was it something else...)

You may not like adobe but many sites require flash player plugin.

1187460 2011-03-19 08:53:00 Flash is still horrible.

But I have been upgrading Flash on my PCs\OSs left right and center and haven't been having any strange issues....

1187461 2011-03-19 09:03:00 Portable HDD might be the way IMHO.

I would do that but I move around so much that even if I do have a back up its never with me when I need it. also, my "projects" are worked on, finished or abandoned sometimes in a matter of days. If i'm at home, my desktop has realtime backups to an external file server and external HDD.

Laptop is too inconvenient. size is an issue too. 2tb HDD's are a pain to use with a laptop :p

As I said in the beginning , "Dont know if its coincidence or not " but after Adobe installed, it was less than a 3 minutes later everything went stupid.

It may have been Adobe, then again it may not, I was just watching the slide show.

The main point is - damage can happen to anyone, at any time no matter who you are or how careful you may be.

"IF" I didn't have the backups, It would take a fair amount of time to get things back to how they are, and a lot on important documents, emails would have been lost. Backups are only any good if they work - and this is one way I dont really like having to find out :)

Edited: one thing I see a lot, people do backups, and good on them, but NEVER try them out - been to several places where backups are done, but dont work.

Heres a question to everyone -- How many people actually test their back up solution to make sure it does work if required ?

1187464 2011-03-19 11:41:00 x2, the sooner they do away with these stupid flash video players the better, will result in less lag....

Flash has its place, and that's for cartoons of Salad Fingers, or playing Centipede....

1187465 2011-03-19 20:06:00 Ive just configured my server to wake itself up in the middle of the night, start a hyper v XP machine which has a scheduled task to send a wake on lan packet to my desktop (can only get it to work on xp for some reason), which then backs itself up to another hyper v machine and the hyper v machine backs itself up to an external hard drive and then everything shuts down again when its finished .

Ive also got a backup job which backs up the server to my NAS every week and then I also keep two hard drives in different places outside of home with a backup that is never more then 2 weeks old .

Finally I have a Hyper V server that allows me to VPN in from work and I backup to another machine over that (as long as there havent been any large changes) .

Paranoid . . . . maybe, such a geek, definintely . . . but Ive never lost a single thing

1187466 2011-03-19 20:28:00 My music, photos and videos are synced between my desktop and netbook with SyncToy. My external hard drive is backed up onto the server with a batch file. Good enough. :D pcuser42 (130)
1187467 2011-03-19 22:14:00 I should probably make better use of my ext hdd and backup my uni work and other documents. I just haven't made the habits of doing that sort of thing, since 1- I've never had an ext hdd before and 2- last time I had a HDD fail I pulled it out, slaved it and pulled all the data off it before it failed and stuck it on my fresh install. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)
