| 1217554 | 2011-07-18 22:02:00 | I currently have 2 hard drives on my computer and 1 DVD drive: a 750GB drive thats in 2 partitions C: and F: plugged into sata port 2 a 2.0 TB drive thats plugged into sata port 3 DVD drive is plugged into sata port 4 Sata 1 is not plugged into anything. If I try to plug a new (formatted) drive into sata 1, windows won't start, saying that it can't find a boot partition. That understandable, so I swapped the cords around so that: 750GB drive thats in 2 partitions C: and F: plugged into sata port 1 a 2.0 TB drive thats plugged into sata port 3 DVD drive is plugged into sata port 4 Sata 2 is plugged into the new drive Windows starts up, but F: drive doesn't show up? When I switch it back to the way it was originally it all starts to work again, but I can't used the new drive. Anyone has any ideas how to change this round? |

| 1217555 | 2011-07-18 22:04:00 | It may be it's simply not assigning a letter to the second partition, check disk management. Otherwise, leave your boot drive in port2 and just change the boot priority in the bios. | inphinity (7274) | ||
| 1217556 | 2011-07-18 22:31:00 | Going into disk management and trying to assign a drive letter (F) message comes up: "The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up to date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer." If I refresh nothing happens, then try again the same message comes up. Browsing the system log there is an error message from when I booted up, not sure if its related: VDS Basic Provider Unexpected failure. Error code: 490@01010004 |
