1217481 2011-07-18 07:58:00 Are the Enermax PSU's any good? QW. (15883)
1217482 2011-07-18 08:33:00 Yes. Corsair, Enermaax, Antec in that order. pctek (84)
1217483 2011-07-18 08:39:00 Looks like I will be getting me one then. Got a bad Hyena PSU with my new case today. QW. (15883)
1217484 2011-07-18 08:50:00 Don't bother with the bottom-of-the-line PSUs from them though.

The Antec Basiq and Enermax Tomahawk (I think) both don't use very decent capacitors. While the rest of the design is probably OK the capacitors aren't that great.

In fact the same goes for the Hyena - overall it's probably not an incredibly bad PSU (although some versions are really bad) but the capacitors always let them down.

1217485 2011-07-19 02:46:00 So what PSU should I put in the PC I am putting together. I would like to go for a Corsair PSU, trouble is they are so expensive for a 500watt PSU QW. (15883)
1217486 2011-07-19 03:19:00 Corsair 400CX seem OK

I have one in my lounge PC... although it uses OST capacitors, which aren't regarded as the best. When they fail I'll replace them with something decent and keep on going.

Unless you pay a couple of hundred dollars for a really good PSU (like my Enermax Modu82+) you may have capacitor problems with any\all of the cheap ones.

Most people won't care as the capacitors generally last a couple of years but personally I don't like things that are bad quality, especially when the good quality ones would last 10-15 years

1217487 2011-07-19 03:39:00 Well even the cheap Enermax PSUs have a 3 year warranty so if the cheap caps are only lasting a couple of years they'll have to fix/replace under warranty. CYaBro (73)

Enermax or Corsair - whatever you like of the two. Or Antec.

Are any of their lower end PSU's any good?
QW. (15883)
1217490 2011-07-19 06:30:00 Depends what your definition of good is.

As I said, yes they work OK but they also have cheaper capacitors than their more expensive counterparts.

As I also said, you can fix this problem by just replacing the capacitors if they fail before you upgrade the thing anyway. (Or just replace anyway as soon as the warranty is over, which is what I will be doing with mine)

Antec has a reputation for using Fuhjyyu capacitors which are widely regarded as one of the worst brands in existence.
