Quite possibly, but it is still very cool none the less. :punk

1188626 2011-03-23 04:22:00 I like the quick start, but it doesn't seem to give the "enter bios" function, and does safe mode still work on it? A bit scary if it doesn't.

1188627 2011-03-23 05:15:00 That's awesome!

Will this be able to work with the likes of custom built pc's or even laptops? as i would love my pc and laptop to start that fast.

1188629 2011-03-23 06:16:00 I doubt UEFI is why Windows is booting so fast.. As the video comments say, they most likely have an SSD and maybe have done a lot of tweaks to the OS.

EFI has a setup screen just like BIOS except it's graphical rather than text-based.

See here for an Asus one: www.youtube.com

Recent laptops even with normal BIOS usually POST pretty damn quick anyway, because the hardware is not customisable, there are usually no options to configure, and they don't write POST messages usually because most people don't care.

People who build their own PCs from scratch usually do want a BIOS which can give useful messages on startup for information and troubleshooting etc.

You can still enter the BIOS if you are quick enough.

Will be available on new hardware, I recall MSI was promising UEFI it by the end of last year - so it might already be out.
However you have to realise that, that laptop is running an SSD, if you aren't running one it will pretty much be as usual.

But really, how many times a day do you restart or shutdown your machines for this to effect you? Saving your 3 seconds a day isn't really anything...

1188631 2011-03-23 07:15:00 The only thing that stops my PC starting up as fast as that laptop is detection of 5 hard drives and 3 CD drives on two separate controller cards. Agent_24 (57)
1188632 2011-03-23 19:05:00 I think its great, even if i only turn on my pc once a day
The laptop loads windows faster than it takes firefox to start
